Guest guest
For those of you that didn't get the Sample of the reworded letter to your State Rep, here it is. Dear Representative: I was devastated at your lack of foresight and leadership in voting against an increase in the State income tax on the last scheduled day of the Spring legislative session. An increase in State revenues is the only way we can preserve the fragile human services infrastructure in Illinois. It is clear by your vote on May 31st that you don't understand how devastating a " doomsday " budget will be on infants, children, youth and adults with developmental and other disabilities, rape and domestic violence victims, at-risk and homeless youth, individuals in need of addiction services, and other current and future recipients of human services. We are now looking at cuts in funding of up to 75% of the Governor's proposed funding levels. Cuts of that magnitude will force many programs to close and others to downsize significantly. This would have terrible consequences for hundreds of thousands of people in Illinois. I thought you were a friend of people with disabilities and their families! We need your continued support in these difficult times. We realize you have constituants that are asking you not to vote to raise taxes. They haven't considered the cost resulting from having their elderly parents on the street and the prisons emptied, or people with addictions unable to get help and people with severe mental illness that can no longer get their meds. Lastly, we need a permanent increase in the income tax: please do not vote on any budget that cuts disability and human services. Sincerely, Taken from the Thank you letter-
