Guest guest
Hi all, You'll soon decide that I have a lot of interesting friends. This time it relates to what the military has to offer someone who is guardian of an adult w/DD. Can someone like this qualify for family housing? I know there are support groups and resources for families raising a kid w/disabilities, but what about someone who is guardian for a sibling, and who is thinking about joining up? My husband says that base housing can be limited, and that he thinks families w/young kids go to the head of the line. He also thinks that there are dangers from some of the soldiers who might be rough types and would take advantage, and from the nearby community which caters to those who want to spend off-duty time drinking, etc. He thinks it's too transient, and is concerned for how our friend's plans may affect the sibling, but we're limited in what we can say. Anyone here know someone who is in the military who also has an adult child/sibling w/DD? -Gail
