Guest guest
Chauna, My kids, my husband, and I all do NOT eat raw anything! We rarely (maybe once in a blue moon) eat vegetables. I think that if you feel that your are getting a good variety of healthy foods, you don't have to eat things your not happy with. We eat Pizza too! And for not eating all the veggies, well that is why most people take vitamins and minerals, to supplement what they aren't getting from not eating veggies. I look at this way, some people don't believe in formula feeding, some people don't believe in using cloth diapers, some people don't believe in being a stay at home mother/father. Well, to each his own, you need to do what is best for you and your children! I was unable to breastfeed, so instead of starving my child, I used formula. Some people will be upset to hear another say they don't believe in that, but what works for one family doesn't mean it will work for the next. Just like some people think vaccines are safe, while others believe they are not. It must be up to each individual parent to make a choice they feel is best for them and their children. So regardless what others may think, or what they say, you need to do what you feel is right for you and your child! M
Guest guest
On the other hand. Just the opposite may be true. IT may be even more critical to not inject chemicals and diseases into your child. I don't have the best diet either, although I definitely try with dd to give her good stuff. vegies, meat, and fruits. I know how difficutl it is to not only change your outlook on food but then to actually be able to live on what you are left with. I am definitely not a chef and always figured I would have a maid someday. Hehe. But even on the typical American diet, I still believe that not vaxing is still the best choice. As far as my research goes, it seems to be the children who are not the healthiest (ie just getting over a cold, etc.) who have the majority of the adverse reactions. It is still injecting a lot of harmful toxins into your perfect child. I hope this helps Chauna! And have you ever looked into juicing. I am just struggling to make it a regular part of our day, but you can make juices that the kids will drink and still hide " good " vegies in them. Kim Mom to Sami (11 mo) >From: mel@... Guest guest
I hope I am not coming down on you by saying this but why such an unhealthy diet for kids? You don't have to eliminate meat or dairy completely to eat well. Guest guest
you know, i just think it's not realistic to expect my kids to eat carrot sticks and broccoli spears for a snack. that sounded really snotty, didn't mean it that way! i really enjoy food, as does my husband, and i like a variety of it. ofcourse, mitchell won't be able to enjoy it as much (unless he outgrows his allergies), but i can't help but feeling that i would be depriving my kids if it didn't let them enjoy food. granted, my first post was pretty liberal. we eat mostly fruits for snacks, but they're not organic. we eat veggies (well, not my husband, but the rest of us), but we often boil them or eat the canned variety. i just hate feeling like i'm doing my family a disservice because i don't make them gag down all this disgusting food, telling them all the while that it's boosting their immunity -- come on! that's going to go a long ways with kids. i don't want everyone to think that i'm stuffing horrible things down my kids' throats throughout the day, because we do enjoy a lot of healthy foods, but we enjoy " fun " foods, too. i consider our diet a typical american one. but my question still stands -- should i be vaccinating my kids because we choose to eat for fun as much as for neccessity? chauna > I hope I am not coming down on you by saying this but why such an unhealthy > diet for kids? Guest guest
I guess we just have differing ideas of what constitutes "good" or "tasty" food. I think healthy snacks are great, and I don't just mean carrot sticks and broccoli. I think a person has to completely change their outlook on food and nutrition to understand, and it's unrealistic of me to expect everyone to agree with me. So I'll bow out of this thread. Guest guest
i personally don't believe the vaccines improve the health of anyone, so IMHO as a starting point they are better of without them. but, whether or not you vaccinate, the kids will benefit from a healthier diet in general (and so will you and randy). converting to healthier eating can be a slow process and doesn't have to be one of suffering. i make a yummier burger than mcd's any day and i use beef, just beef that doesn't have hormones and steroids added to it. i eat bread, but not white bread, and the 7 grain bread we eat is so soft and yummy too. we eat peanut butter, but get the fresh ground stuff rather than peter pan which has added sugar and hydrogenated oil. a little change here and there over time will make such a difference. and once you start eating a wider variety of whole foods, you begin to not like the processed food so much. you realize it has no flavor, except salt. when i met my DH he was a chinese food and doritos man. now he's not so fond of the stuff and gets hankerings for it much less often. the typical american anything and everything is generally just something marketed to us, shoved down our throats and we are told (brainwashed into thinkning) we like it better that way. look all around at everything, it is mass marketing, even your taste buds aren't individual anymore. your tastes have to fit in with the tastes of millions of others because you are a target market for the products being sold. they have to have broad appeal. does anybody, even kids, REALLY like the taste of a mcdonald's burger over a tasty homemade one? - no, but we are conditioned to believe we do, even if we have a belly ache and the runs after it - get pepto bismal! *lol* just consider the old saying - you are what you eat. it is the basic building blocks to a healthy life. the food patterns established now will be with your little ones for the rest of their lives - 50, 80, 110 years from now, what is established at meal time today will affect them. choose how to teach this so influencial and crucial life lesson wisely (all of us parents!). established eating patterns are difficult to change and are also the root of many diseases in our culture. food does not have to be bland, yucky, and boring to be healthy and nourishing. and it doesn't have to be fake and fattening to be appealing. *hugs* chris > i have read several posts that say that to build up the child's > natural immunities one should feed them vegan, 80% raw, etc. diets. > well, let me just say that is not realistic for me or my family. so > in light of the fact that we eat mcdonald's once a week, pizza just > as often, plenty of red meat, and ice cream for dessert, should i be > vaccinating my kids? Your letter sounded like you mean you have " some " junk stuff. Are you basically eating a healthy diet though> You say it's a typical american, but that you are getting in lots of fruits and veggies, right? I don't condsider that typical american. I think my family has a really really good diet, especially compared to other shopping carts I see. <ugghh> Most of our food is great. WE eat TONS of fruit s and veggies. Taking my kids into the fruit market is like heaven for them. They want to try Everything. However, we do have icecream once a week or so. We usually don't eat organic, as it's already expensive to buy other veggies. Here in SW PA, it is SO exp. to eat organic. However, a friend of mine just found an organic coop. I will be joining that next year! You know, do your best. Make good decisions You'll be ok
