Guest guest
NEWSLETTER - Issue 1: The 5th international Conference on Home and Community Care for Persons Living With HIV/AIDS Dear all, Today we launch the first of what will be a regular newsletter for the much awaited - 'Fifth International Conference on Home and Community Care for Persons Living with HIV/AIDS' to be held from 17-20 December, 2001. This time, for the first time, the conference will be held in a developing country - in the city of Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. What is it that makes this conference stand out? It raises more practical issues - on how communities can care for people living with HIV/AIDS, whether at home or in a hospice. How to maintain and enhance their quality of life, as a part of the community. There will be skill building sessions, empowering visits and a wide array of community-based activities to get involved in. We will inform you of these events as time nears. The theme of the conference 'The Power of Humanity' is appropriate in the context of how Thailand and other developing countries have faced the onslaught of this disease. The three sub-themes are: 1. Needs, Aspirations and Rights 2. Care and Support 3. Building Partnerships The conference will truly be an international platform for information and best practice exchange. We request you to send in abstracts as soon as possible, remembering that the deadline of receiving abstracts is 31st August 2001. Please visit our website at http//www.hiv2001.com for online registration Online booking for empowering visits and information on skill building sessions and satellite symposium will be available very soon.
