Subject: Re: [ZEITGEIST] anti breast feeding group?

I'm looking into this.

Many, though not all, states have passed legislation

that allows

breast feeding in public. One would think that

Citizens Against

Breast-Feeding would make those laws their first

target rather than

trying to influence the Republican nomination.

The phone number given is actually a New York number

and it does

work. It's just an answering machine message that

states it is for

Citizens Against Breast-Feeding. The messages claims

to have offices

in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. Reverese phone

number lookups

did not give a name for the New York phone number.

There are several Hennessy's living in Phoeniz,

Arizona, though none

listed as Tess Hennessy.

Web searches failed to turn up any references to

Citizens Against

Breast-Feeding.

So, I haven't found solid evidence that the

organization exists.

It smells like a media spoof to me. The group's claims

are so

hyperbolic that one suspects parody.

i wonder if its some sort of devil's advocate thing to bring

attention to the moral right and some of their almost absurd

platforms in the eyes of some, and has nothing to do with

breastfeeding, or if it is to get the breastfeeding activists loud

and organized and out there? hmmmmm. just a theory (x files music

please *lol*).

I wonder if it's not a clever marketing scheme to just get a lot of hits on their site. Sick way to do it, but obviously effective! But the phone number and phone message belie that. Hmm... Dunno.

Re: Anti-Breastfeeding Groups

I'll be the brave one and clear up all the confusion. I'll leave my phone number for them to return my phone call. I'll even ask for information to be sent to me. I called and got the answering machine too--it sounds real, but who knows. There are a lot of bored people out there. The part that struck me as being odd, was when they said they were not accepting donations. What grassroots organization does not accept donations? Sounds fishy to me. We'll see.

My husband and I think this whole thing is very coincidental since

Playboy is hosting a Democratic fund raiser for Al Gore. This appears

to be a smear campaign on the Republicans " family " values. Just another

example of politicians trying to mislead and scare the public into

voting for them. " Oh no, we better not vote Republican because they'll

make me stop breastfeeding.... "

,

Over the years, I've come across a number of women who couldn't or

wouldn't breast feed. They all resented very much the pressure to do so

by other women, who correctly believe that there is no equivalent

substitute. They are angry when they are villified by Le Leeche and

others, for not BFing. Women obviously feel strongly about this issue. We

just had a volatile debate on this list over it.

If I were one of the women that felt slighted and put-upon for not BFing,

I would probably start a phantom group that purportedly wants to outlaw

breast feeding. The real purpose is not to outlaw it, because that would

be impossible, if not ridiculous. Instead, it is intended to get a rise

out of the staunch BFers; to get them angry and put them on the

defensive. In other words, make pro-BFers feel the way they have been

made to feel.

My advice: ignore them. No politician is dumb enough to vote to outlaw

breast feeding.

I'm telling you. This has to be a hoax. Some people are having a big

laugh at the reactions it is provoking. Just ignore this " group " .

Folks, this is definitely a hoax. Please have a look at this page:

http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/hoaxes/breast.htm

Moseley

Alan 02/11/84

Joanne Natasha 01/13/00 home waterbirth, cloth-diapered, co-sleeping,

exclusively breastfed, and non-vaccinated picture of health! (Check us out

in the attached photo, taken June 18) :-)

P.S. , I do think some politicians ARE dumb enough to try to outlaw

breastfeeding, but I think there's enough pressure from those of us who know

it's the right thing to do and organizations like the AAP, who even though

they take money from the formula manufacturers, can't deny that

breastfeeding is best. Here's a great article about breastfeeding,

formula-feeding and guilt.
