Thyroid dump/pooling help.

Sorry, this a bit long…

6 months ago I discovered my adrenals and thyroid needed help, so I started

adrenal cortex extract (ACE) for my adrenals. I carefully built the dose up over

two months to a level I thought sufficient (temps levelled out). Next I added

Armour for the thyroids. Again slowly building up the dose from ¼ grain and got

up to 3.5 grains. But my temps remained totally unmoved at 35.6-ish and I

started to feel worse.

I then realised I was incorrectly dosing the Armour. I was dosing only in the

morning, not morning and evening as I should have done. When I corrected the

dosing to 2 grains am, 1 grain pm I immediately had a full blown crash. Symptoms

when haywire and life got very difficult again for about 1 month. I messed about

with both adrenal and thyroid supplements for 2 months but eventually figured

out I needed to stop all adrenal and all thyroid supplements and start from

scratch.

After two weeks of zero ACE and zero Armour I tried 50mg's adrenal cortex

extract and symptoms immediately arrived. So I stopped the ACE.

I waited one week and I tried ¼ grain Armour and symptoms immediately arrived.

So I stopped the Armour.

Then I spoke with Dr Peatfield and he explained I might not be able to convert

T4 to T3. He also said maybe it is because my body has become toxic with

hormones, (from the incorrect dosing??) and that they are now stored around my

body and any extra hormones causes these stored hormones to be released and

cause all these problems. He asked to wait some more time, free of

adrenal+thyroid supplements then introduce ACE again and then add Armour to see

what would happen.

So I waited two more weeks (so that's about 6 weeks with no adrenal and no

thyroid support, except for the few days experiments). I was feeling pretty

rough. Temps still low and obvious signs of adrenal fatigue (failed the pupil

test and blood pressure dropped upon standing up.)

So I tried to introduce adrenal support again with the Ace @ 50mg's. It was

obvious my body needed the adrenal support, but at the same time I got a LOAD of

extra symptoms and then had a major crash. Never had it this bad:

-Short of breath/breathless on walking up the hill.

-Mega hypoglycaemia and jittery. (new)

-Had to eat every hour to control blood sugar. (New)

-Mega tired

-Mega pulse going banana's up in to 110's (new)

-I woke in the night with mega racing pulse.(new)

-I woke in the night and need to eat some food, and had night sweats. (new)

-Low appetite and nauseous after eaten a little food (new) (= low cortisol

signal)

-Dizzy on standing. (new)

-I was scared out of my wits (New)

-Feeling of being doomed. (New)

-Brain fogged. (new)

-Blood pressure drops upon standing = Adrenals shot

-Eye experiment = pupils move opening and closing = adrenals shot

-Temps totally dependent on my location: normal in a warm room, but freezing

cold outside and at room temperature.

I have been house bound for 3 days, but I'm getting a little better now. I have

booked the next week off work because I feel so bad.

After much reading and research I figure this is a " thyroid dump " or " Thyroid

pooling " .

http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/faq/

44) What is a " Thyroid Dump " ? We used to state that those who have been low on

cortisol may have had the thyroid hormones " pooling " in the blood, and the HC

opens up the receptors to receive the thyroid hormones. Instead, the discomfort

may be from adrenaline rushes. When that happens, you may feel extreme anxiety,

racing heart, and/or other uncomfortable symptoms.

So, phew…..questions:

1) How do I find out why my body is pooling thyroid hormones?

2) Is the pooling just because I dosed the Armour incorrectly?

3) How do I stop it, or correct it?

4) How long will it take for my blood to remove/clear this excess thyroid

hormone so I can restart adrenal support?

My next scheduled telephone call with Dr P is not until next week but I need

help understanding this now. Any advice or help would be most appreciated as the

last few days have been a total nightmare.

Sunshine -

What you quoted from STTM indicates that they don't believe in " thyroid dumping "

any more. They suggest adrenaline rushes instead - which I think fits with a lot

of your new symptoms. When the adrenals are failing due to things like

autoimmune disease ('s), then often the adrenaline-producing inner cortex

remains functional. When you normally would have produced cortisol for minor

stresses, then adrenaline kicks in instead.

Do you have salt cravings, too? That often accompanies true adrenal

insufficiency.

Maybe your adrenals were just getting worse during this time period, and the ACE

wasn't helping enough - so that you body couldn't tolerate thyroid hormones.

How did you discover that your adrenals and thyroid needed help? Even if it was

through proper medical testing, you might want to have it done again since it

sounds like your adrenals are getting worse. And it might turn out that your

thyroid is OK once you start taking the correct meds for your adrenal problems.

------i don't understand that? what do you mean?

They suggest adrenaline rushes instead - which I think fits with a lot of your

new symptoms. When the adrenals are failing due to things like autoimmune

disease ('s), then often the adrenaline-producing inner cortex remains

functional. When you normally would have produced cortisol for minor stresses,

--------well, i'm either having a thyroid dump due to the additional adrenal

hormones, or i'm having an adrenal crash, or both. whatever it is, i am in

serious trouble here. Gotta chance the NHS today because pulse rate is going

banana's and i'm scared big time. If only Dr P was more available.

>

> Do you have salt cravings, too? That often accompanies true adrenal

-----------No salt cravings at all. i usually take salt daily, but in this crash

i have stopped because i have no cravings and it makes me nauseous. not sure if

thats the right thing to do. I may have a little later, see what happens.

-----------Thats what i thought too. It was benefiting in some ways to have the

adrenal horomes, i was warmer, but when i moved up from 50mg's anfd 100mg's - it

blew my brains out.

>

> How did you discover that your adrenals and thyroid needed help?

---all my symptoms showed it. tired, lacking in energy, low temps, unstable

temps. I have been working on them for 5 years. Something seems to have changed

in my body and it is now rejecting the things that once worked.

Even if it was through proper medical testing, you might want to have it done

again since it sounds like your adrenals are getting worse.

-----yes, looks like an adrenal crash. But how do i support them if i can't take

adrenal cortex extract?

And it might turn out that your thyroid is OK once you start taking the correct

meds for your adrenal problems.

------maybe, but my temps have been low for a long time now.

Thx reply

----------ah, ok, i just re-read it and i see what you mean. yes, maybe my thats

why my heart rate is so fast. adrenaline rushing. thank you.

Sunshine - I hope you can be seen today/tomorrow. If you are having an adrenal

crash, there are several things they can measure that should show it - cortisol,

ACTH, sodium, potassium. blood pressure, etc.

I'm not familiar with ACE, but I've heard that some adrenal extracts may contain

adrenaline - which might explain why it's making you worse, not better.

Bupa prescribed Beta-blockers for my racing heart beat, which i am unwilling to

take. I have an appointment with Dr P tomorrow. He I can trust.

Sunshine, are

you absolutely sure that you do need extra thyroid hormone replacement. The

symptoms of adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism can be very similar. Your

present symptoms and very low temperature would point to your adrenals so try

to concentrate on getting these back in order. Check that you are taking

sufficient salt especially if you are having salt cravings (a big sign of low

adrenal reserve).

Buy natural

salt such as Celtic salt or Himalayan Salt. The Himalayan salt has up to 87

natural minerals in it. One of the best things anybody could do is to make a

'Sole' solution with Himalayan Salt. Put several salt crystals into a sealable, clean glass

container. Top up with sufficient water to cover the crystals well. Use good

quality, low mineral content water. Seal the container in order to prevent any

contamination. Keep topping up with more salt until crystals remain in the

bottom. This means the water is completely saturated. The crystals will

dissolve in about 2 hours, saturated at 26 percent and ready to use. The warmer

the water, the more rapidly the salt crystals dissolve. For a sole drink, take

up to a teaspoon of concentrated sole from the container, add to a glass of

water and stir vigourously.

When the sole runs low, simply add more water. Make sure that at least

one crystal is always visible in your sole concentration. This is your

guarantee that the sole is saturated. A saturated sole will keep

indefinitely. Neither bacteria, nor viruses nor fungi are able to

multiply in it. Read http://www.naturalhomecures.com/crystalsalt/recipes.html
