Dear all

This is to let you know of the very sad news that our friend and colleague

MacClymont died at the end of difficult illness last week at the

Lister Hospital. As many of you will know, was a pioneering health

visitor who was at the forefront of early developments including the

Principles. She worked tirelessly on behalf of the older client and was

lecturing and involved in curriculum development on this subject right up

until her illness made her too weak to do so. had a brilliant mind and

was also a great contributor to many informal conversations and discussions

about health visiting and public health. She will be greatly missed.

Thanks for that information Sally. I remember mary well when I was

lecturing and also of course her writing. you are right she will be sadly

missed. It is because of people like mary thst health visiting got yo where

it is - for her sake and those of her era we must continue to promote it as

a separate and very important profession.

Whenever i feel i cannot keep going, I think of people like mary and

Margaret Thwaites (who I am still in touch with) and the like and know it

is all worthwhile.

Regards and Christmas wishes to all

Margaret

That is very sad news for all of us and we have all benefited from her

work and the guidance and direction she gave to health visiting.

There were some great pioneers and she was one of them.

Happy Christmas to all and a great new year

Jackie,

is 14, too and I know we struggle to try to find gifts that are

stimulating and fun yet a " little " more age appropriate.

She loves anything Disney still and while I don't keep them from her, I do

encourage her towards other movies with " real people " versus cartoons in

them. She loves movies with animals in them, too. She loves " reading " books

especially the Disney books. And she loves to play with Barb's.

She has gotten into music and the more popular bands of late which allows me

another avenue for her. I also bought her a karaoke machine from Radio Shack

one year which she still loves. And remember she is NONVERBAL!!! heehee. But

she loves to sing and dance along with the music.

I have also bought her movie and blockbuster gift certificates which she

LOVES. She is going to go to movies and Blockbuster anyhow so it is money

well spent.

She loves pencils, markers and pens, et so I always buy more of them and they

are great for stocking stuffers. I also try to include a pretty journal to

go with them.

Also while she can't balance well on roller blades; she wanted them. Years

ago she had the 4-wheeled Fisher-Price skates but they became too babyish for

her. But now Sketcher's has an adult/kid looking type with 4 wheels!

Hope this gives someone some more ideas.

I am a little late on this thread, but just wanted to let you all know about

a neat toy my mom has purchased for for Christmas. It is call

" Jammin' Draw " and I'm not quite sure how it works, but I know you have to

draw and then the music you make has something to do with what you drew. I

think it will be great for because he loves music and I am always

looking for ways to motivate him to do fine motor activities.

<<Take the 9/11 tragedy and add a plane crashing 1 1/2 blocks from my house!

It's certainly an emotional time, but it's going to be a great Christmas.

>>

Wow, , I didn't know you were so close to all that! Liam sounds like a

lucky boy. Ted would love a play kitchen. I hope you have a wonderful

holiday. As Tyler said, " You can't be brave if you've only had

wonderful things happen to you. Here's to all the brave people! Have a

meaningful holiday and may it be full of spirit.

You may have a potential Emeril on your hands LOL. That is a beautiful

neighborhood. I'm glad everyone you love is safe too. My niece and her new

baby flew in from Honolulu yesterday and now the five generations will be

together. loves to mention the fact that the first time he held

baby Peyton, he peed on him. He then wet me as well and we had packed all

of our clothes to go to the airport. We are having a Christmas party to

celebrate my grandmother's 84th birthday (Christmas eve) and Christmas.

There will be 46 people there. I can't wait. I love crowds. (serious this

time)

Gail,

Hi. I'm not in Rockaway where the plane crash was, I'm in Brooklyn, about 15

minutes away from ground 0. Kathy mom to Liam lives in Rockaway right near

where the plane crashed.

Either way, it's too close for comfort, but am still trying to be jolly!

The most immediate side effect from Arginine was that my muscle spasms

stopped. I did have a slight, annoying little headache for the first couple

days, but I had that before I started the Arginine.

Have a blessed holiday.

Nic got several How Wheels tracks for Christmas. He already had over 100 cars

but no track. WOW, had I known how long he would sit and play with them, I'd

have bought the tracks long ago!

he has never sat for so long at one activity before.

We got him a Groovy Tunes piano which we thought he would LOVE. He plays it for

a few seconds then leaves. It has a microphone and a recording thing so he can

replay what he's already played and it has tempo switches, etc. we should have

invested that money for more race tracks! hehehe

OK, we got Hot Wheels track here too, which I thought would be great. Well,

it's fun

of course, to play with, but it's also fun to take the track apart and hit

your sister in

the face with it! Oh well, guess I'll just have to chalk it up to good fine

motor,

(taking the track apart), good gross motor (actually hitting her target),

and good

cognitive abilities (knowing how much it would make her sister mad).

However,

she didn't bargain for the time out she got! Guess Hot Wheels will have to

be

a supervised activity her for awhile!
