Guest guest
I am thinking they just need to designate from Halloween through the New Year as the "Holiday Season," and people should just celebrate it for those two months. So anything goes, sweep out the pumpkins and bring in the Thanksgiving and Christmas festivities. I mean it is happening anyway so why fight it? I think it is funny every year when people say, "Oh my, they are already advertising for Christmas." If they would designate 2 months for it, then maybe they would stop saying that because it is really getting redundant now to hear it. I think hearing it is more annoying now than the fact they are advertising as early as they do. I just think it is time to admit times have changed, and there is a 2 months holiday season every year and anything and everything goes. Then we won't have to get all stressed out about it happing too fast. Because I just love it when it is all over with, what a relief!! And we know that day is coming, New Year's Day, whoopeeee!! Guest guest
I agree, yesterday while driving through our small town I saw an inflatable pumpkin in someone's yard,(another thing that drives me nuts is leaving decorations in your yard 3 months after the holiday, lights are fine -but not inflatable pumpkins)but anyway their neighbor had not even 5 feet away an inflatable snowman. It was so funny!Carolyn <charper777@...> wrote: I am thinking they just need to designate from Halloween through the New Year as the "Holiday Season," and people should just celebrate it for those two months. Guest guest
This is a fun thread. As to getting the Christmas tree up and all that stuff.....well, among the people who live in our house, my husband has ADD, I have ADHD and am still recovering from breast cancer, my adult daughter has ADD among other dx's, and her son - my grandson Sky, has Aspergers and ADHD. So - there is no tradition or ritual. The tree and decorations go up when they go up...........might be the first weekend in December, or 2 PM on 12/24. Who knows? When it occurs to us, we get it done. LOL! Hugs to all, Lynn in Michigan
Guest guest
You know - i LOVE putting up our tree. We usually do it about a week or so before Christmas. Not TOO long before - we can't sustain the excitement with too long. We all help to put up the tree and add the decorations. It may not look perfect, but it's done with love and excitement. We went shopping tonight - in ASDA (it's owned by Wal-Mart). I bought a Christmas wreath for the front door - it's lovely. But I'm not tempted to put it up yet. I feel quite good actually - i did a load of shopping on line for gifts and DVDs and CDs for Christmas. Plus the tank train stuff for . His birthday is just after Christmas (the 30th) so i feel as if i buy a whole load of stuff, but it's not too bad, since it gets divided up between Christmas and birthday. We went slightly mad and bought a portable DVD player for him as well. He did kind of ask for a TV for his room, but for various reasons, i didn't really feel happy about it - mainly cos he share a room with his young brother and didn't want to have arguments about what was on. So the DVD thing seemed to be a good compromise. He would prob want to watch more DVDs than actual programmes anyway. I'm getting excited!! Can i ask you all - how do you celebrate Thanksgiving? Is it a bigger deal than Christmas, or about the same? What kind of things do you do/traditons and stuff. Just curious, since we don't have an equivelant here. Re: Christmas This is a fun thread. Guest guest
My son is ten in fourth grade and interested in many of the same things. He watches National geographic, discovery channel and likes tornadoes, volcanoes, dinosaurs, drawing, writing, goosebumps and captain underpants books. I live near downtown Los Angeles and very close to Dodger Stadium. We should see how many are in the LA area and try to get together with kids over the LONG holiday break. Guest guest
Christmas is more of a celebration to me than Thanksgiving. We celebrate both on Christmas Eve and Christmas, but Christmas Eve is our bigger day because of us being German. By the way my AS son 's birthday is December 31st. We have alot of birthday's that month, my husband and sister are a week before christmas and my niece is the 1st week. My husband and I also have our anniversary the 23rd of December. You can imagine the money that is spent that month. My son with the AS wants the new Star Wars video game for christmas. I checked the price the other day, 50.00 dollars!!!!! Wow, they sure are costly. But he's hard to shop for because he's almost 14, and he's not really into toys anymore, so I will probably get it for him . Any suggestions about gifts for a boy that age? I have three kids and usually spend about 100-125 on each one. Any suggestions would be appreciated. He doesn't really like to read much and he doesn't have to many interests, that's the problem, and I don't want to by him all video games either, maybe just one.
