Guest guest
I need to correct this statement - The recommended TSH reference range in the US is 0.3 to 3.0 The recommended reference range in Sweden, Belgium Germany and parts of Australia is 0.3 to 2.5 Belgium have recommended this range should be dropped still further to 0.3 to 1.5 UK usual recommended reference range is 0.5 to 5.6 (differs with whatever testing kit is used) RCP and BTA (almost mandatory) TSH reference range is 0.5 to 10.0. GMC have now accepted that doctors in the UK can use whatever guidelines/reference range they wish, even from another country so long as they can give good cause as to why they are using those, and Dr Skinner chooses to use the European reference range of 0.3 to 2.5. Hope this makes things clearer for you. Luv - Sheila Have printed out the Pulse article and will do the same with the parliamentary statement. I don't know where I'd be without this group. Sheila - " Also, their recommended TSH reference range was 0.5 to 10.0 when in Europe, their recommended reference range was 0.3 to 3.0, and that Dr Skinner HAD CHOSEN TO USE THE EUROPEAN GUIDELINE (sorry for shouting, but I am) and gave good reason to the GMC as to why, they fully accepted this and he was completely exonerated. " I'm a little muddled on this still - the RCP's TSH reference range was 0.5 - 10.00 when in Europe... if so whose was the 0.3 - 3.0 recommended reference range?
