Guest guest
The vitamin E oil that I have smells ' fishy '...hugs, . VITAMIN e > Hello Everyone. At the risk of sounding not very wise, I have a question about vitamin e. I have been using it for awhile (the one I have just says usp grade) and I've never actually smelled it. Yesterday, I got a really bad sunburn on my face; I decided to use straight vit e as I thought it should be healing, As soon as I put it on, it started to sting. When I smelled it, it smelled almost like teatree (very medicine like) so I washed it off right away. Is this the way vitamin e is supposed to be? I just assumed it had no smell and very healing. Maybe I was way off. Thanks. > > >
Guest guest
, what you bought was not Vit E, may have been bottled or labeled incorrectly, so save the contents and take it back where you bought it for a refund and to inform the supplier because they may not be aware that it is NOT vitamin E in the bottle.....and will correct the situation before someone gets seriously injured by rubbing it into eyes, etc etc etc. YOu might save a life of a baby or other! hth Sherry _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 helps eliminate e-mail viruses. Guest guest
I would stop with the large doses of vitamin E. There have been quite a few studies lately showing it doesn't do much of anything helpful and actually causes a small increase in risk of heart failure and death. I've never heard of it having any impact on weight loss. High Doses of Vitamin E Do More Harm Than Good (from the American Heart Association) http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3026060 High Dose Vitamin E May Shorten Lifespan (from WebMD) http://my.webmd.com/content/article/96/103947.htm I know this is yet another case of something we think is good for us turning out to kill us, or something we think will kill us turning out to be good for us. It's hard to keep it all straight. The Vitamin E thing may just be a case of " more is not better. " I don't think there's anything wrong with the amount in food or multi-vitamins; it's when you top 400 IU in one capsule that it starts getting iffy. Guest guest
.... is not a preservative. It will retard rancidity and make your product last longer, but it will not kill bacteria or mold or anything else, which is what a preservative does. Guest guest
Hi, I also want to introduce vitamin E but I remember a post recently about this. I have searched previous messages but can't find it. It was something about avoiding synthetic vitamin E. Kirkmans vitamin E was mentioned and I also can't remember if this is synthetic? Guest guest
I believe that most wheat germ oil Vitamin E's are soy-free. Many of them will state that right on the label--be sure to check. I'm not sure where you can get them in the UK though, sorry. Perhaps check with your online sources there or a good HFS. Guest guest
What do you mean " things turned around " after you added suppplements? Vaccinations@...: tallchick1966@...: Fri, 29 Feb 2008 11:27:38 -0800Subject: Vitamin E I would bet five bucks that this was most likely either synthetic E (we need to find out) or high doses. I'll reread again carefully. We ate healthfully - as organic as possible - drink raw milk - exercise, but when we added supplements to our lives things turned around dramatically.I agree with Sue, " they " just don't want us in control of our health. Guest guest
Hello Lee, I was told the same thing. But my dr said wait at least a week before I begin putting it on. Also, the health food store recommended Emu oil topically in addition to the vitamin E oil, anyone heard of this stuff? > > I've used vitamin E topically on my lap puncture holes to reduce > scarring. a friend recommended it to me, and it made enough sense that > I haven't even bothered to research whether it really makes a > difference, but it seems to have. > > I puncture a vitamin E gel cap and spread the gel over the lap scars > after showering. Vit E is used in cosmetic creams as it is very good for the skin. It doesn't have much of a scent. Guest guest
I would like to know when and why we use Vitamin E in perfumes? ------ Likely not for perfumes, but in aromatherapy Vit E can act as a natural preservative to carrier oils that aren't as rich in it naturally and would otherwise go rancid quicker. -
Guest guest
I have been using Vit E as an anti-oxidant in my infusions - to extend their shelf-life. It really does seem to make a difference from my personal experiments. Argan oil (I so love Argan oil) which is naturally high Vit E has a longer shelf life than Olive oil because of it. Has anyone else used it that way? Sophia

I knew about and have been adding Vitamin E to both my aromatherapy and perfume blends, knowing it would be a natural preservative that was also good for the skin of the end- users. However, is there ever a time it would be appropriate to add a little Vitamin E to an essential oil to retard oxidation? Greyson
Guest guest
However, is there ever a time it would be appropriate to add a little Vitamin E to an essential oil to retard oxidation? Greyson-----You may run the risk of changing the scent, so use your own judgment, and experiment first if you do decide to go that route. Essential oils won't have a rancid smell when they turn like veg oils, instead they lose their therapeutic properties and their fragrance may alter. Most have a shelf-life of a year or longer (citruses tend to go quicker; those oils like resins, some woods and some roots, may improve with age; and steam distilled tend to have longer shelf-lives of around 2 years), but length varies from oil to oil and botanical to botanical. Heat, sunlight, and air play a big role, so how you store them should be of utmost importance. -

Guest guest
Maggie Vitamin E is an antioxidant. I will prevent oxidation of any oils you use in your product to prevent rancidity. It will not protect against bacterial/fungal contamination. Usage rates vary from 0.1% - 2%.
