Guest guest
Hi all I have decided that 2012 must be the year that I get myself better. I was diagnosed hypothyroid in 2003 when my TSH was 84 - I had felt ill for ages but thought a doctor would dismiss me as a new mum back at work and tell me it was normal. Anyway, I have been on thyroxine for years on dosages averaging around 100-150mg. The doctor asked me to go in this week to discuss my thryoid. I went and told her that I wouldn't say I am ill but I no longer know what 'normal' is and I was sure with some different treatment I could get myself feeling much better. She said they never prescribe T3, there was no point referring me to an endocrinologist as he will only do what she does, my aching joints are because I don't do enough exercise and am overweight and when I mentioned feeling a bit flat, I got the third degree about my home life. I left feeling totally miserable. I dont really know how to interpret my test results as they have only been doing TSH for ages at my surgery. My results are as follows: Free T4 23.6 (10-19.8) TSH 0.16 (0.3-5.5) Free Triiodothyronine 5.5 (3.5-6.7) On the basis of these results, the doctor has reduced my thyroxine from 150mg to 125mg and asked me to have more blood tests in 6 weeks. She said I was currently on too high a dose which would be speeding up my metabolism too much and could be dangerous for my heart. I asked her why weight wasn't dropping off me and she said it doesn't for everyone. I am at a total loss where to go from here - do any of you peeps with lots of experience have any suggestions? I am happy to pay now to go privately somewhere. Thanks in advance
