Welcome ~ congratulations on beating cancer! Sorry to hear about the osteoporosis though ~ I've only known one person well enough that she shared just how painful it was and she was young as you are as well. At that time I'd always thought of it as more post menopausal but not so as you know of course.

My name is Judy and I have a mired of disorders related to first being symptomatic for thyroid disorder since my late teens and not dxd until I was 48 ~ not uncommon unfortunately. Along with major depression I've been dealing with chronic fatigue and fibro as well as being border line diabetic ~ as I'm learning many of the health issues I have go with poorly medicated thyroid. I have finally been able to convince my Dr. to send me to a specialist but my experience has been that it pays to do ones own research and I have been learning more and more all the time about the endo system and how it all works together and needs to be seen as a total system, not just treating one part.

This is a friendly group and I'm sure your expertise and support will be a great help!!! Look forward to hearing from you ~ hugs, Judy

Hello,I am new to the group. My name is , I'm 37 years old, a survivor of uterine cancer (for which I had a complete hysterectomy in 2000) and now fighting Osteoporosis. I work as a Registered Respiratory Therapist at an extended care ventilator facility in Michigan. Many of the patients I see have of course various different ailments, some acute but most chronic. I'm here to talk to if anyone would like and also would love to chat with new people about health or life in general.Take care,

Welcome ,

We are happy to have you join us! I'm and I am almost 46 (JULY 4 kids!!). I have fibromyalgia, asthma, allergies, chronic sinusitis, hypertension, high cholesterol, overweight, low thyroid, anxiety & depression, reflux (gerd), overactive bladder, sleep apnea and insomnia--I sleep with a c-pap machine and I just got a new headgear device Monday and it seems to be working a lot better. I have been having trouble sleeping with my c-pap for around 6 months. I think that is all but it is hard to remember. My 22 year old daughter has cystic fibrosis, chronic sinusitis, allergies and asthma. I joined for me and for her. I also have a healthy husband and a healthy 24 yr old college graduate son who just got his pharmacy tech license and is looking for a tech job. His goal is to go to grad school for Pharmacy and of course become a pharmacist! I recently started a diet (lifestyle change)and kicked my Pepsi habit-- woohoo!, and have been eating a lot healthier. I've lost about 13-14 lbs so far in less than a month. I really like it, if anyone has this problem of too much weight, check it out, it is called e-diets and they have many options. It's only $15.99 a month which isn't bad when you consider weight watchers, Craig etc.

I am doing OK, I am on meds for all the above and my biggest health problem is fatigue. I'm on morphine and Norco for the fibro pain, I know a lot of docs don't prescribe those kind of strong narcotics for fibro but I go to a pain management doc and their philosophy is if there is something that can control the pain, don't be ashamed or embarrassed to use it--I follow my doc's instructions carefully and never take more that I am supposed to. I recently tried Ambien CR for my insomnia, her I guess it works for most people but not me! I was up all night using the bathroom. I read through the side effects and it didn't mention that as one but I can't think of anything else that would have caused it.

That is awesome that you beat the uterine cancer! It seems like those of us with chronic diseases are tough cookies! Sorry about the osteoporosis, it that very painful?

I am well acquainted with RT's (we usually call you guys Respiratory Terrorists--same with the PT people-LOL--Physical Terrorists!) due to my daughter's CF. She does home treatment with a nebulizer three times a day and also does The Thairapy Vest. She got a new vest machine that is smaller, it fits under our computer desk where she does her therapy. We've also had encounters with many RT's during admits.(all the time usually 4 times a day!) has one named Dan that she adores. Some are really nice and some are slackers. Just like people in general I guess. I just think people who work in children's hospitals should like kids!

anyway, I tend to ramble.Welcome again! I hope we can chat sometime.

Hi (I have a sister named )...

It sounds like you've got a lot on your plate... and I wonder how you deal with it all. Do you know the reason behind why your having trouble with your CPAP? It could be anything from needing your pressure readjusted to just needing a different mask. I've heard a lot of patients of mine like the Breeze mask (the nasal pillows) because it allows them to sleep on their sides, stomach and allows for more freedom from claustrophobic masks.

I don't know if we're allowed to talk about what we've learned works for us on here (so if that's not allowed please someone just tell me)...I know that everyone's different. But, as for cutting out the Pepsi....that is probably one of the smartest moves anyone can make! Great choice! Pepsi and other soft drink and juice products have 2 strikes against them.... first they have caffeine in them and second, sugar. We all know that sugar when it's broken down in the body can be stored as fat... but many don't know that caffeine (since it is a stimulant) can actually trigger pain, and other inflammatory processes. Yes, I know that Excedrin and others have caffeine in them...so you'd think that they work to relieve pain....not the case... they actually work on a different center of the brain and don't necessarily take the pain away but cause another chemical in the brain to increase (endorphins...pain relievers..so to speak). Anyways, it's a good choice to get away from the soft drinks.

Congrats on your weight lose too!!!! You go girl!

The Osteoporosis is painful from what I've seen. For me, since I was just diagnosed about a year ago it hasn't gotten too bad. I really have had a time with pain in my knees and hips the last month or so, but I'm writing that up to it being humid and aggravating the osteo. I've seen several people though in the hospital that have it and have shrunk or have developed severe pain. My grandmother passed away from problems stemming from osteo...so, I'm trying to keep a level head and stay focused on being healthy...that's about all I can do for myself. I avoid fast food, chocolates, sodas and stuff like that... work out...try to get enough sleep and the main thing I do (and I hope no one takes this bad as I'm just saying what I do) is I don't baby myself. I force myself to do things even if I hurt... I realize many can't do that though and they need to find a different way to get through...but this is mine.

Your kids sound like amazing kids and like they've adjusted to various things in their lives as well...that's commendable! That Thairapy Vest is a great invention...so glad they've come up with that! That and lying in different positions will help her keep it mobile. How is your daughter doing by the way... especially since she's gotten this far with the CF? Good for her!!!

Hope to chat again...take care!

Hi ,

Thanks for writing back. I just saw a sleep therapist Monday and she gave me a different device to try w/ my c-pap. It goes under my nose, it's not the Breeze thing (I have one of those too and I used to do fine with it, I have no idea what happened.) Well this device (I don't know what it is called) looks like the c-pap they use on babies--I have just seen it on tv, I love the Discovery Health channel! The first night I tried it I didn't sleep but that was the same night I tried the Ambien CR. The next night I slept good with it, but the next 2 nights I was up half the night trying to sleep with it and finally gave up. I wish I could get in for the sleep study sooner than Aug 31st but I guess I will live. :) I don't think we aren't allowed to share what has worked for us, why not? It's the support thing, I realize because something works for me might not work for someone else but it could be something worth trying.

I know what you mean by not babying yourself. I try not to as well, I try and do stuff, recently my husband and I went to Washington DC (NO KIDS!) and he did get me a wheelchair for DC as there was so much walking I never would have made it but then we went to burg and town and I walked around there. I was hurting but took an extra pain pill (my doc said it would be OK).

My daughter is doing very well. She had a rough time growing up, lots of admits, home IV antibiotics, inhaled antibiotics, PICC lines, etc. She has also had 15 surgeries, 13 were for her sinuses. BUT!! her last sinus surgery was at age 15 and she had pneumonia then too and that was a rough admit. since then she has been doing so much better. For one thing we changed CF centers when she was 13 (long story, hated her cf doc etc), but as soon as they saw her in clinic at the different center they admitted her for pneumonia and she was in for about a month and then she had sinus surgery, a week after that we came home on home IV's. That was quite difficult, but it was before I got the fibro and most of my other health problems. I used to could sleep like a stone in the hospital! I used to stay with her all the time but when she was 15 she told me she wanted me to go home and sleep at night, I sort of had a mini nervous breakdown after a very long and horrible day, Ang had sinus surgery and I thought they were going to place the PICC while she was sedated but no,,they did it after her surgery and she was wide awake. I was in there with her wearing one of those 100 lb lead vests and they tried under fluoroscopy for about an hour (not really sure it could have been shorter but it seemed like forever) to place the line while she was begging me to make them stop and they wouldn't listen! and after they thought it was in it refused to work! ARGGHH! Then I was informed that our **effing** insurance (HMO) wanted her discharged that day! her line wasn't working and she needed IV antibiotics for at least another week. They will not send a patient home on IV's without a port or a picc. That was when I lost it, and I don't even remember half the stuff I did, my husband told me later that I was very rude to another cf patient and another cf mom, and that is not like me. I later apologized to them and they said not to worry about it, everyone goes nuts sometimes.

Again sorry so long, I get on a rant about this one!

Hi Kerry, Well, I did drink, but I dont anymore. Just dont understand all of it yet. Like ALT levels and so forth. If you have any information on that, I would appreciate it. Just want to know if my levels are about what everyone else has experienced. Thanks, Kerry12155@... wrote: Hello and welcome to the group ! sorry you have this too - I've had hep c for over 30 yrs and I'm fine - no
