Guest guest
My 14 year old daughter had labs done a little over a year ago that showed she was hypo, she is gaining weight (about 40 lbs in two years) has persistent acne and resists the iodine protocol because she feels awful when taking it. I was severely halide toxic when pregnant with her. My question, this morning I insisted she start taking the protocol, however, she would not let me help her, and an hour later, she said she felt as though she " couldn't breath " and is now in bed feeling bad, refusing to drink salt. She took 12.5 iodoral, 400 selenium (!), a large pinch of salt in water, 1000 vit c, spray magnesium, one blue bonnet iron 27. Is it the selenium? Or just more salt? Or just really toxic? Guest guest
, I'm very new here, but feel I can speak a bit to what your daughter is experiencing. Even though I'm much older, I am severely toxic. I tried two years ago to start with Iodoral, one 12.5 mg. tablet per day per my doc's instructions. It took about 5 days for me to almost end up in the emergency room. It was an extremely bad Herx reaction. My blood pressure and pulse went sky high, along with that feeling of not being able to breathe. The headaches, generalized weakness were incredibly bad. I was shaking all over and couldn't stop...but I ran a slight low grade fever on it. I had panic attacks (magnesium helped). It took 2 days for the symptoms to subside after I stopeed taking it. A wonderful lady here today (read my post about starting Iodine for a newbie/Introduction)told me since I seem sensitive, I must start with a very small amount. My new doc has given me Standard Process, 3 mg. tablets, and I'm to cut those in half for the first few days, with all of the companion nutrients. Then move up slowly. This is something your daughter might have to do, also. Has she ever started off a bit slower? These reactions, believe me, are horrible. I'd think they would be much worse with a teenager who really doesn't understand, or want to understand (there's the word, LOL!)what iodine is really good for. Is she on meds for the Hypothyroidism? I have a 15 year old daughter, and she tested low last year only on her FT3. We used Iodine, 2 drops of Lugol's a day, and she never had a reaction at all (and she was a severe asthmatic, has not had a spell since!), and that brought her FT3 right back up into normal range, and she lost about 15 lbs. So, it can be done, but has to sometimes be done slowly. I was so surprised when she had such an easy time of it, but I crashed and burned (and blamed it on old age). If I may ask, why did you give the iron with the Iodine? Is she low on ferritin/anemic? Or is there another reason I'm not aware of? Hang in there! this sort of thing is always difficult with teenagers...I know, I've gone through 2 of them, still have 2 in the house, and a ten year old. > > My 14 year old daughter had labs done a little over a year ago that showed she was hypo, she is gaining weight (about 40 lbs in two years) has persistent acne and resists the iodine protocol because she feels awful when taking it. Guest guest
Is she on thyroid medication? I know many people resist taking medication but my two children were dx'd at ages 4 & 7 and I put them on thyroid medication. They are not 9 & 12. Hormones are important for proper development of sex organs and other things. If you know you were toxic when pregnant then you can probably assume she is as well. If she feels horrible on 12.5 mgs then try going to 6.25 mgs. My 12 yr old only takes 100 mcg Selenium every other day and he tested very toxic in bromide. He is only about 90 lbs though so it sounds like your daughter is larger. I still think that you may want to try cutting back on it. The iron may be causing stomach upset. You may need to concentrate on getting the liver to detox more efficiently. My son tested positive for Phase II liver detox issues. He is also positive for the MTHFR gene which effects detoxification too. Her inability to detox (if that is the case) could be a reason for weight gain too as the body protects you from toxins by encapsulating them in fat. Have you taken a basal body temp? Days 1-5 of the cycle is the best time to check if she is menstruating. Vit A can be helpful in detoxing and you can get that through a good cod liver oil supplement. My children take Nordic Naturals or Barleans Omega Swirls. Sometimes you can't force it with children and you have to come around the back side of things to get them going. My children would resist if they felt lousy too. Guest guest
Thank you so much for your helpful responses and pinehavenfarm7, My daughter is not on thyroid. She has low ferritin; I hoped to fix that through raising it with the Blue Bonnet Iron. The iodine doc here (CM) from the good doc list is so far from what we discuss here on the list: he refused to give her iodine or thyroid and wouldn't listen about the weight gain due to age. Another good doc was not taking new patients so I feel a little stuck. I will ask her to take half of 6mg iodoral, stop the iron, lower the selenium and try to get her temps on day 1-5 of her cycle and post them. I can try to have her do a liver detox with milk thistle first, and I will look into MTHFR as I don't know about it yet. I also remember now that she tested for very low cholesterol. Will the Nordic Natural for vit A help with this?
