Guest guest
I thought I'd share this with others who are also interested in DIY Iodine.I found this video on how to make Lugols Iodine on youtube...........http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3W8SjmA4qwThen I went to the ebay side recommended by and found the 2 ingredients needed:1) 45g pure elemental iodine crystals (the recipe calls for 44 grams) $24.95 plus $2.22 for S & Hhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/45g-pure-elemental-iodine-crystals-/280731875297?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0 & hash=item415cec77e12) Pure granular ACS grade potassium iodide, 4 0z. $22.50 plus $2.64 (the recipe calls for 88 grams)http://www.ebay.com/itm/4oz-114g-potassium-iodide-ACS-grade-/280651699034?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0 & hash=item415825135aThe recipe indicated that you need a QUART jar .... so in the end you will have approx a quart of (more or less) 5 - 7 % Lugols Iodine which is equal to 32 ounces. The costs for 32 ounces of this strength would be $24.95 and $22.50 PLUS $$2.22 and $ $2.64 for Shipping and Handling (unless he combines and discounts S & H)for a maximum total of $52.31 unless he adds taxdivided by 32 ounces ends up costing $1.64 per ounce of 5 - 7 % strength Lugol'sSource for BOTTLES (and perhaps the ingredients, later on)This is the gentleman (Bill) on ebay from whom I ordered my bottles. He is super fast, professional, reliable, compassionate and wants you to be pleased with your order. When I first ordered from Bill, pointed out that my bottles had 'plastic' droppers. This was my mistake, as I had not noticed it in the description and to be honest, didn't even know to get glass instead of plastic. When I asked Bill if he had some glass inserts that he could sell me, (to replace the plastic ones I, now, had) he replied 'no' but I will order some and mail them to you .... no charge. He would not even let me pay for the shipping. So........ this is a really 'classy' guy!!!http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amber-Glass-Dropper-Bottles-2-oz-16-bx-/290608294935?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0 & hash=item43a99aac17He put this 'lot' together especially for me when I told him that I needed (16) 2 oz bottles for my 32 ounces of iodineI'd be making.Bill now offers both plastic AND glass droppers .....so, you need to indicate that you would like the 'glass' droppers. His price for each 2 oz bottle comes out to $1.36 per. I also asked him if he could sell us the ingredients. He has put in anapplication with the authorities and is awaiting approval. He says the process seems to be lengthy and not easy.______________________________________________________These recipes are from /Israel: I make my own Lugol's original formula (5%). 85ml distilled water mixed with 10g postassium iodide (KI), then add 5g iodine crystals(I). It will need to set in a covered container to allow all the crystals to dissolve. Dose equivalent is 6.25mg/drop (vertical) when the iodine is in solution. You will need a scale to measure with. Water weighs one gram/ml. Storage period is indefinite with a properly sealed glass bottle. Rubber stoppered bottles typically deteriorate within a year. ======================== Formula to make 5% Lugol's iodine one ounce batch: 2.84g KI 1.42g I 24.14ml HOH ========================= Here is the method for making 5% Lugol's iodine (6.25 mg/drop) in a nutshell: 1. Obtain a clean, empty 1 quart container (with lid) 2. Fill about halfway with distilled water (RO water is also okay) 3. Put in 44 grams of elemental iodine crystal (you need a scale) My scale was so small I had to put the crystals on a thin sheet of paper and then on the scale ... the crystals started to discolor the sheet .... so you might want to think of the way you're going to do this. I don't know if the paper contaminated my iodine or vice-versa 4. Stir with non-metal spoon (wood is okay). 5. Put in 88 grams of potassium iodide, and stir some more. 6. Fill jar to about 80% of capacity with distilled water. 7. Let it set overnight. If cap is metal, put waxed paper between it and the jar; iodine attacks metal. 8. The next day, it is ready for use. For me, the next day still had crystals that were pretty bigand had not totally dissolved. I checked with and she said it was fine to go ahead and drink and thatthe crystals actually take more than a few days to dissolve completely ... sure enough .... some days later, no more crystals! Guest guest
Oh my I just watched this video and boy is it ever easy to make your own. Remember to put it in a safe place so kids don't touch it. So do I put it in the door of the fridge after making it. I have a postal scale that does grams and oz. I just ordered both. Thack you so much for posting this . You are a gem. God bless you plenty. I am so glad to hear about the soy. That stuff eats the thyroid and i cannot take it in any size or form. makes my heart go crazy. Wow now I know why. This is so cool. Hey , hate to be a pain but he mentioned a butter you can make but I checked for it and could not understand him when he mentioned his web site and could not find the butter recipe site . Could you pretty please send me both. Thanks and Merry Christmas. Guest guest
Hi again. I got my order for the one part of the iodine which is the black chystals but it came in a tiny amber bottle like an eye dropper bottle but when I weighted it, it was 75 grams with the bottle but says 45 grams of iodine on the bottle itself. Now can I use the whole 45 grams instead of just 44 grams and then I think the other ingredient asks for 88 grams of the other chystals if I remember right and then I fill that quart bottle to make 32 oz of Lugols. Could I wash out that little amber bottle and use it for storing the smaller readily used lugol's iodine instead of opening the quart jar all the time . I put the chystals in the door of my fridge and I take it that I can store the finished product in the door of my fridge. It sure looked like a lot of iodine chystals when he made it on the video. If I am wrong please correct me since I do not want to make it up wrong after spending so much money. RaeThanks and Merry Christmas and have an awesome week.
