Hi Ric,

are you also taking Glutamine to heal the holes in your gut?

New member -my brief history and some guidance required

Hi all, As a brief summary of my problems……I have had IBS diarrhea since I was a teenager. Symptoms started when I got viral meningitis and glandular fever as a teenager. I think the antibiotics in hospital messed up my flora. Since then I've suffered with daily, constant diarrhea (to varying degrees from mild to severe), lots of gas and bloating, sometimes dizziness and brain fog, cramps, constant tension around the stomach area, creaking bowls, the feeling of incomplete evacuation, lethargy, mild depression, …etc…the list goes on.I easily get food poisoning when I travel abroad, have had gastroenteritis a few times and salmonella poisoning once. I have never had blood in my stools which is reassuring. Nevertheless, it's quite demoralizing, embarrassing and draining after having had it for so many years. I've learned to hide it from everyone around me. I tested extremely positive for the SIBO test and recently ran a DNA test on my stool (MetaMetrix test) which confirmed I had severe candida overgrowth (yeast at 100000pg DNA/g specimen). It also confirmed high normal levels of triglycerides which could point to poor production of bile acids. I am convinced my problems lie with upper gut fermentation in the small bowel. And most recently I was diagnosed with hypochlohydria (low stomach acids) and H.Pylori (which I have since eradicated).I have tried most conventional medicines throughout the years. Not too long ago I tried the antibiotic Rifaximin but that didn't make a different at all. I also tried something called laceteoperoxidise (referred to as OSCN) recently, which is supposed to remove all bad bacteria in the intestine while not harming the `good guys'. It didn't do a thing for me. I recently tried 200mgs of the antifungal sporanox and Nystatin along with countless natural supplements suggested on the candida diet (caprylic acid, Cat's Claw, coconut oil, goldenseal, sachroymides Boulardii etc..)which may have helped a little. I have found that following a low carb and sugar free diet has slowed down my symptoms a little, but it really isn't 'normal living'. I've got through the last 10 years of my social life by taking loperamide (immodium). However, I am now 35 and my symptoms seem to be worsening. Most recently (for the last month or so) I've been taking 35% Food Grade, Hydrogen Peroxide, 25 drops x3 daily with distilled water. This was supposed to be the 'one minute miracle cure' but unfortunately it hasn't really helped (unless it's supposed to take longer). In the last week I've just taking KOLOREX which is a natural antifungal plant from New Zealand which is supposed to be very strong and great at reducing candida along with UVA URSI another supposedly amazing antifungal. And today I've just received my order of Colloidal Silver and Lugol's IODINE 7% (I couldn't find 5%). So my questions are:1) Will IODINE interfere with antifungals and natural supplements?2) Does anyone know if I can continue to take my Hydrogen Peroxide?3) Will Colloidal Silver interfere with it?4) Has anyone had any success beating intestinal candida or SIBO with IODINE?That's it....sorry for my rambles!!Thanks to all Ric

Excellent!

I am expecting that all the nastiness will start to calm down.

You can eradicate the Candida but the food intolerance symptoms will persist if whole proteins can still cross the gut barrier. The iodine will help, too.

PS if you view history, grain type carbs only became part of the diet when humans migrated into the cooler zones - they are post-Paleo

That's very true. I really live on the FODMAPS diet at the moment, avoiding all diary (other than milk and water kefir), all grains except for gluten free corn flakes. I plan to start the IODINE protocol in the next few days. I plan to start getting some Vitamin C, Selenium, Magnesium and sea salt in to my system for a couple of days before I start using it. I don't want to get my hopes up too high as I've been sick for so long and tried so many different treatments. The latest being 35% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide. It works in a similar way to IODINE. I was

convinced it would help by eradicating any bad bacteria and candida I had...but alas it didn't and my search continues. I plan to take the iodine in the morning on an empty stomach so it can do it's thing without having to handle food in me too. In the evenings I might also continue with the H2O2 Peroxide along with Colloidal Silver. I will let you know how I get on!Thanks again for the suggestionRic From: Marsh <hmarsh@...> iodine Sent: Friday, December 23, 2011 12:52 AM Subject: Re: New member -my

Hi Ric,

Have you read the New Member doc. and Commonly Asked Questions? It's important that you do so, and you will see that it is best to take iodine with food. Not on an empty stomach. It works better that way.

Best,

Ric,

Have you ever been tested for celiac?....And if so, then are you aware that the

blood tests used to screen for celiac are highly unreliable?

Your symptoms scream celiac to me, and I say that based on both our daughter's

experience of having received a " false negative " diagnosis for celiac approx. 25

years ago, resulting in over 2 decades of unnecessary suffering, as well as what

I learned at the Gluten Truth Conference held in Dallas, TX this last fall where

I met numerous other celiac patients who had been undiagnosed for many years

before learning their true diagnosis.

The lab which all of the celiac forums recommend for diagnosing celiac & /or

gluten intolerance is Enterolab:

http://enterolab.com/

I realize from what you have stated in your previous posts under this topic that

you are already eating a low gluten diet, but I doubt that you are aware of the

many " hidden sources of gluten " which can wreck havoc for someone who is a true

celiac patient vs. someone who simply has " gluten intolerance " or a " wheat

allergy " .

Perhaps the most important test of all, if funds are limited, is the $149

genetic cheek swab test offered by Enterolab:

http://enterolab.com/StaticPages/TestInfo.aspx#gene

An important fact you need to be aware of is that 40% of the American population

carries the gene for celiac, although only about 1% ever develop true celiac.

Why is that, you might ask. Well, celiac experts postulate that celiac usually

occurs after it is " triggered " by an event such as an illness or food poisoning,

such as what you describe in the brief summary of your health history.

This is why celiac patients who think they are following a gluten-free diet can

remain extremely ill for so long because they fail to recognize the devastating

effect of " hidden gluten " in our everyday lives -- including such unspected

sources as the glue that holds the gypsum together in dry wall. For example,

someone who works in construction is exposed to inhaled gluten on the job from

handling dry wall, especially when the dust is in the air. Whoever woulda' thunk

it?

Perhaps the most important article in helping you understand how celiac develops

and the true meaning of " leaky gut " is this one from Scientific American.

(Scroll down to see the color illustrations about how toxins can interfere with

" tight junctions " in the intestinal mucosa.)

http://www.feingold.org/Research/PDFstudies/CeliacArticleAug2009.pdf

Once you gain these concepts and insights about leaky gut and celiac, then it

will be much easier for you to comprehend how and why even a tiny amount of

unsupected gluten can make you extremely ill with symptoms which can linger for

several days (or even much longer) if you have developed true auto-immune celiac

-- as opposed to someone else who is merely gluten intolerant or who has a wheat

allergy.

That's why I would encourage you to " rule out " celiac by doing at least the $149

genetic cheek swab test. Remember, there is a 40% chance that you carry one of

the two celiac genes, based on the known rates for these genes in the American

population -- which is also a similar rate among Europeans, too, I'm pretty

sure.

I wish you had had the chance to meet all of the people who are glowing with

health now whom I met at the Gluten Truth Conference after they finally learned

their true celiac diagnosis because all of them had similar health histories to

what you have described. Celiac is not nearly as rare as you might imagine it

is, and it is not unusual for folks to be as ill as you have been for as long as

you have been ill before learning the real diagnosis underlying all of their

myriad symptoms.

For someone who has true celiac disease, then being 99% gluten free 99% of the

time isn't good enough! These people must learn to avoid ALL sources of hidden

gluten 100% of the time in order to recover their health!!

It's a steep learning curve at first, but it gets easier and easier over time

until it's not nearly as daunting as it might seem at first. There are so many

celiac forums and other resources on the internet that it's not nearly as

overwhelming a challenge as it used to be before so much information about

celiac became so readily available.

> Hi all,

>

> As a brief summary of my problems……I have had IBS diarrhea since I was a

teenager. Symptoms started when I got viral meningitis and glandular fever as a

teenager. I think the antibiotics in hospital messed up my flora. Since then

I've suffered with daily, constant diarrhea (to varying degrees from mild to

severe), lots of gas and bloating, sometimes dizziness and brain fog, cramps,

constant tension around the stomach area, creaking bowls, the feeling of

incomplete evacuation, lethargy, mild depression, …etc…the list goes on.

>

> I easily get food poisoning when I travel abroad, have had gastroenteritis a

few times and salmonella poisoning once. I have never had blood in my stools

which is reassuring. Nevertheless, it's quite demoralizing, embarrassing and

draining after having had it for so many years. I've learned to hide it from

everyone around me.

>

> I tested extremely positive for the SIBO test and recently ran a DNA test on

my stool (MetaMetrix test) which confirmed I had severe candida overgrowth

(yeast at 100000pg DNA/g specimen). It also confirmed high normal levels of

triglycerides which could point to poor production of bile acids. I am convinced

my problems lie with upper gut fermentation in the small bowel. And most

recently I was diagnosed with hypochlohydria (low stomach acids) and H.Pylori

(which I have since eradicated).

>

> I have tried most conventional medicines throughout the years. Not too long

ago I tried the antibiotic Rifaximin but that didn't make a different at all. I

also tried something called laceteoperoxidise (referred to as OSCN) recently,

which is supposed to remove all bad bacteria in the intestine while not harming

the `good guys'. It didn't do a thing for me. I recently tried 200mgs of the

antifungal sporanox and Nystatin along with countless natural supplements

suggested on the candida diet (caprylic acid, Cat's Claw, coconut oil,

goldenseal, sachroymides Boulardii etc..)which may have helped a little. I have

found that following a low carb and sugar free diet has slowed down my symptoms

a little, but it really isn't 'normal living'. I've got through the last 10

years of my social life by taking loperamide (immodium). However, I am now 35

and my symptoms seem to be worsening.

>

> Most recently (for the last month or so) I've been taking 35% Food Grade,

Hydrogen Peroxide, 25 drops x3 daily with distilled water. This was supposed to

be the 'one minute miracle cure' but unfortunately it hasn't really helped

(unless it's supposed to take longer).

>

> In the last week I've just taking KOLOREX which is a natural antifungal plant

from New Zealand which is supposed to be very strong and great at reducing

candida along with UVA URSI another supposedly amazing antifungal. And today

I've just received my order of Colloidal Silver and Lugol's IODINE 7% (I

couldn't find 5%).

>

> So my questions are:

>

> 1) Will IODINE interfere with antifungals and natural supplements?

>

> 2) Does anyone know if I can continue to take my Hydrogen Peroxide?

>

> 3) Will Colloidal Silver interfere with it?

>

> 4) Has anyone had any success beating intestinal candida or SIBO with IODINE?

>

> That's it....sorry for my rambles!!

>

> Thanks to all
