I'm a 50 yo wife and mother of 10,9 of whom are still at home. I'm working

through anemia/slow metabolism/estrogen dominance issues.

Through my own research I started taking Nascendyne a year or so ago and noticed

a huge difference in my breast density. During that time I also went carb free

and was able to lose 25 lbs when I hadn't been able to lose *any* weight for 8

years since my last pregnancy. I ran out of Nascedyne and had an appt with a

new medical doctor who likes to use natural means when possible so I decided to

stay off of the iodine until I saw her and had any tests run that she wanted to

run.

The results of my tests indicated estrogen dominance with ovarian cysts,

thickened endometrium w/some small fibroids, high estrogen no where near

menopause and mid range progesterone but while I was on heavy bioidentical

progesterone cream....so my/her interpretation of that is low progesterone. My

thyroid test revealed 3 nodules on the right side of the thyroid. She said that

iodine would help all of these conditions and having all of these conditions

indicated depleted iodine.

She put me on progesterone cream 1/4 dose days 1-14 and full dose days 15-25,

iron glycinate, 30 mg NatureThroid, and 30 drops of Nascedyne which is the

equivalent of 6 mg of iodine or 1 drop of Lugols. She didn't want me taking

more iodine for fear of the NatureThroid/Iodine combination sending my

hyperthyroid.

TSH 3rd Gen = 1.95 Range Most Optimal .5-1.5

FT3 = 2.5 Range: 2.3-4.2 pg/mL

FT4 = 1.1 Range: 0.8-1.8 ng/dL

RT3 = 28 Range: 11.32/ng/dL

Is there a possibility of a higher iodine dose making me hyperthyroid?

Also, I've been reading in the files here but haven't found the answer to this

question yet. Can the iodine be taken at the same time as the NatureThroid? Or

should there be a break in between. The Nascedyne says to take it on an empty

stomach.

I'm trying to figure out what I can take with what or what needs to be taken

away from other things......like NatureThroid, iron, magnesium, D3, milk

thistle, basic vitamin, B100 and B12/folic/biotin/B6 sublingual, and Jarrow's

Glucose Optimizer for prediabetic numbers. I'm still working on this puzzle and

having more information about when and how to take iodine most effectively would

be much appreciated.

Thank you for any advice you an offer,

Laralee

Hello Laralee and welcome!

Please read the New Member doc. you were sent when you joined. If you didn’t save it, go to Files, then New Member doc., then Commonly Asked Questions. You will learn much there! ( I read the whole thing over at least once a month to refresh myself).

Sounds like you have found a good doctor if she recommends iodine! However, Lugol's in solution form or tablet form (Iodoral) is the iodine we recommend here. Along with the companion nutrients, which you will read about in the Commonly Asked Questions. 30 mg of Naturethroid is a very small dose, does she have you raising it every few weeks? Your FT3 is quite low as is your FT4. A wonderful site for information on NTH and how to raise it, is www.stopthethyroidmadness.com. The iodine dose she is recommending is also very low. Again, read the info in the files and it will be very helpful to you.

. Naturethroid should be taken away from calcium, iron. I take my Naturethroid sublingually in the morning when I first get up. Lugol's should be taken with food, so I take Iodoral with my other vitamins and companion nutrients about an hour later with breakfast.

Kind regards,

Kathleen

Thank you, Kathleen.  I am reading and trying to assimilate all of the information both here and on STTM.  I have the book on order.  There is just so much information to get through and I don't want to be wasting any time taking the iodine at a less than optimum time.  I'm spending  much time on the computer reading while things at home are not getting done.  I'm trying to balance it all.

Can you explain why Iodoral is preferred over nascent iodine?  I read the paragraph I found on that question but I didn't get a full understanding as to the Lugols being the preferred iodine.  I take the nascent iodine because that is what a friend, who is a naturalpath recommends for more bioavailability and its gentleness on the system.  She is a colon cancer survivor for 13 years, which took her into becoming a Naturalpath, so I tend to trust her reasons for recommending things.  Yes, I read the companion nutrients (and I'm still trying to put into my recall what they are ; )

So  much information to learn and *retain*!!!!  I've yet to read anywhere if iodine can/should be taken at the same time or close to the NatureThroid.  I don't want to give myself a double whammy if there should be time between the two and so far I haven't found the answer to that question in my reading, thus my asking before I finished *all* of the reading there is to do.  I felt it was time sensitive information.

No, my Dr. doesn't have me raising the 30 mg NatureThroid at all.  She was hesitant to give it to me at all and preferred that I take 12 mg of iodine instead.  But, I had already been that route with iodine only and didn't feel that it was enough to fix what I think needs fixing.  She listened and gave me the 30 mg of NatureThroid but dropped the amount of iodine she wants me using to half the amount that she would have prescribed had I not gone on the NatureThroid.  I am schedule for blood tests in February and an appt in early March.  Until then she said to stay with the 30 mg of NatureThroid and 6 mg of iodine along with progesterone cream and iron.

I have a sister who has been obese, had her stomach banded and hit a plateau even after having her stomach banded, whose thyroid numbers are all in the low normal range, but it was recently discovered that she has an ectopic thyroid, and her endo put her on thyroid meds in spite of her low/normal numbers.  She immediately started losing weight again and was no longer freezing.  With that info and my thyroid nodules, my Dr. decided to listen to my symptoms more than my numbers.  Even so, she is being very conservative.  I'm trying to learn so that I can intelligently converse with her and walk this path with her while trying to get to the right treatment.  She is a thyroid cancer survivor and thus has an acute awareness of thyroid issues.  Her cancer went undetected for 3 years of symptoms because of doctors only going by tests.

Thank you for your help and pointing me in the right direction for information.  Laralee

Hi Laralee,

I am happy to hear you have Stop the Thyroid Madness book coming to you. In the meantime you can learn much on the STTM site, especially about how important it is to keep upping NTH. Sometimes taking such a tiny dose as 30mg can only make symptoms worse. If you have time, please read all you can on that site.

Lugols is the preferred iodine for the Iodine Protocol. Nascent iodine will not saturate body tissues and has not been proven to detox the toxic halides, such as bromide, chloride and fluoride. The amount of iodine in one drop is very small. You can read more about this in the Commonly Asked Questions #1 in the New Member doc. I referred to before.

Yes, there is not problem in taking iodine and NTH at the same time. However, if you would rather take them seperately, that is fine as well.

You might want to also read Dr. Brownsteins book, IODINE, WHY YOU NEED IT , WHY YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT IT. It is availabe at Amazon and other places. It will also answer many of your questions.

Again, welcome and again, Commonly Asked Questions is a great place to start!

Best,

-Kathleen
