Way to go, PAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This morning the DuPage Workgroup in an effort to learn more

about the

union and PSWs hosted both unions vying for our interest. Pam

represented the 'no-union' vote on this issue. Pam started her talk by

explaining she is not a professional speaker and she admitted to being

nervous. And then she spent the next ten minutes being a professional

speaker. Pamdid a great job detailing, outlining the steps that had been

taken to this pont and some of the concerns parents/psws have. She did a

great job, and NO ONE would have guessed she is not a public speaker. She

did IPADD proud. Cindi

Pam presented what need to be presented.

The Truth gives one courage.

I wish the rest of the state could have heard what was laid out.

Thanks for the kind words and support.

It was very difficult today to sit there and

listen to the union's scripted rhetoric. I watched as the people listened

carefully

to what the union organizers were saying, trying to glean answers to their

questions.

I struggled with the forum and my position as being an invited member of the

panel with being a personal support worker for my son, Josh.

I regretted that the facilitator needed to reprimand me more than once.

Sorry, Ellen. : )

I did my best and I can only hope that some of what I said will be considered as

folks vote.

I am not surprised that Pam did a great job! She has been an invaluable

researcher and asset to IPADDU and she really knows the union issues quite

well...

I commend her for efforts and I commend the DuPage Workgroup for presenting all

three positions in their forum.

Sorry I couldn't be there.

Hello all,

I thought Pam's presentation was excellent. I am doing my best to remain

neutral. It is clear though, that the whole issue was badly introduced to

families by the State and it is still unclear to me how the union is

representing the individuals receiving services and not just the PSW's. I

didn't feel this question was adequately answered. I also don't understand how

AFSCME can represent both Howe employees and PSW's effectively. If I had to

vote, I would feel woefully underprepared to make an intelligent decision.

I thanked the union representatives as well as Pam. The reps who came today

seemed upset with the hard sell that people have experienced with the folks that

have to come to their homes. Pam did a fabulous job, in my opinion, of

representing other family members who are PSW's. Thank you again, Pam.

No need to apologize to me, Pam...I am thrilled that you were there, advocating

for what we believe is the right position on this situation. They probably

would have had to kick me out had I been there...

I am amazed that families feel strongly that unionizing will actually be useful.

It illustrates two things to me...

First, that they do not understand how the funding of HBSSP works and second

that they do not think anyone else is out there advocating for their loved ones

and the needs of their family. The Arc and the Family Support Network ARE in

the trenches, constantly working to advocate for families of individuals with

developmental disabilities. It is hard work and an uphill battle in this state.

We are living in a politically corrupt state where deal making is taken to new

heights. The lack of funding for our loved ones is unacceptable and the

constant threats and cuts are particularly onerous, but unions won't solve these

problems. In fact, the very officials who threatened us with doomsday budgets

and major cuts in supports and services for our loved ones are the very same who

have opened up the door to unionizing PSW's. I find that rather frightening.

Your political involvement and investment is your best defense...get to know

the candidates for the upcoming primary...educate those who seek political

office about our issues, and use your vote as your strongest tool.

Just my opinion.

Great job Pam. You presented in a very professional manner !

In a message dated 9/25/2009 5:41:22 P.M. Central Daylight Time,

Thanks for the kind words and support.

It was very difficult today to sit there and

listen to the union's scripted rhetoric. I watched as the people listened

carefully

to what the union organizers were saying, trying to glean answers to their

questions.

I struggled with the forum and my position as being an invited member of

the panel with being a personal support worker for my son, Josh.

I regretted that the facilitator needed to reprimand me more than once.

Sorry, Ellen. : )

I did my best and I can only hope that some of what I said will be

considered as folks vote.

What is the DuPage Workgroup?  I live in Elmhurst and I am so uninformed about

what is out there and have not been able to find a support group near that I

could go to.  My son is 28 with DS and I would love to be a part of a group near

me.

The National Labor Relations Act provides

B) [unfair labor practices by labor organization] It shall be an unfair labor

practice for a labor organization or its agents-- (1) to restrain or coerce (A)

employees in the exercise of the rights guaranteed in section 7 [section 157 of

Coerce. Hmmmm....some might say, coerce, is the actual promise the union reps

are alleged to have made when visiting folks homes like assures of  pay hikes,

Does this help explain your percieved look of terror on the union reps faces

FYI - The charges we have filed with NLRB do not allege this charge as Pam

Hello all,

I thought Pam's presentation was excellent. I am doing my best to remain

neutral. It is clear though, that the whole issue was badly introduced to

families by the State and it is still unclear to me how the union is

representing the individuals receiving services and not just the PSW's. I didn't

feel this question was adequately answered. I also don't understand how AFSCME

can represent both Howe employees and PSW's effectively. If I had to vote, I

would feel woefully underprepared to make an intelligent decision.

I thanked the union representatives as well as Pam. The reps who came today

seemed upset with the hard sell that people have experienced with the folks that

have to come to their homes. Pam did a fabulous job, in my opinion, of

representing other family members who are PSW's. Thank you again, Pam.

I commend her for efforts and I commend the DuPage Workgroup for presenting all
