Guest guest
He's old enough now that pertussis shouldn't be a big problem, and my 10 month old got through chickenpox just fine. Those are really the only illnesses he's likely to get from being out in public, for which there are vaccines. For the other illnesses for which there aren't vaccines, he's more protected than the average baby because his immune system has not been assaulted with numerous vaccines. Definitely even partial breastfeeding is helpful. For your 5 year old, cow's milk isn't great, but my kids have it with cereal and occasionally drink it, and I just make sure it is organic. Guest guest
i know logically the worst thing you can do for your non vaxed kids is to keep them sheltered or in a bubble. you want to expose them to as much as possible so they can build their immune systems naturally.. and with my daughter i did just that. let people hold her took her out in public and she never got sick, until after she weaned then the allergies started which kept her immune system in a constant state of stress. then she got exposed to RSV which she got bad. at 2 1/2 yr old. Â then my son came and for some reason i'm more germaphobe with him from the get go, i thought this was a bonding issue. but he got sick at 2 weeks old and again at 3 month and again at 4 months... and now i think its a mom intuition thing. i have seen some moms that are just always like this. then there are some that are only like it with one kid. who happens to be their " sicky " one. maybe thats whats going on with you and your son?? you just as a mom sense he is more sensitive or weaker than the others. although i don't agree with keeping him in a bubble. but maybe its just a heightened awareness that you should listen to once and a while. like " maybe i shouldn't let that dirty snotting kid put his hands in my infants mouth " Â just my weird humble and observational opinion....mindyOn Fri, Apr 30, 2010 at 10:11 AM, salvatoreangela <salvatoreangela@...> wrote: Â ok , so ever since i joined this group last year i have been very confident in my decision to not vax/no longer vax my 2 boys . you all always give great advice and it makes me confident that i am doing the right thing i value what you all say greatly. : ) this might be a long post but i have alot of questions lol. so... my youngest- he had hep b at birth and no others since. he is now 10 months tomorrow I have for some reason become a major germophobe since he was born. Not really around the house but just around other people, like in large crowded places with lots of germs and people sneezing and coughing all over. Im not sure if it is because he isnt vaxed or what even though i KNOW he is probaby way healthier bc of it... i just dont know and I would like some reassurance so I can stop stressing. I know I cant keep him in a bubble lol. he has only been sick once and it was for only a week when everybody else was sick for longer. And also, i always hear the importance of breastfeeding and i have partially nursed him sinced birth. I never made enough milk to do it fully and tried everything to boost my supply to no avail. Is it even helping him that much to partially nurse him? I dont plan on stopping anytime soon if so. Also, in regards to my 5 y/o (vaxed until 15 mos) is cows milk that bad like i have heard? should he be drinking rice or almond milk? Guest guest
I think it's normal to go through phases of worrying about one thing or another with our kids. Just follow your instincts and this germaphobe phase will pass. New moms can tend to be more sensitive about things and not completely back to themselves until our babies are at least a year old. Then something new crops up to worry about (sigh). As for the nursing, to the baby it's not about food. It's about closeness to Mom. Stop when he is ready to stop--could be years. That's okay. Cow's milk? Yes, it's as bad as you heard--except for baby cows! Don't tempt fate. They don't need milk of any kind when they're older anyway--maybe something to pour on cereal if they want but not to drink (and of course ice cream!). My kids have liked rice milk but it's also high in sugar. We've never had almond milk but I hear it's delicious. Guest guest
Another alternative to cow milk (YUCK!) is hemp milk, I alternate between this and almond milk, I avoid soy milk because I am sensitive to soy, plus I am not sure soy is safe. Rice milk is good as well. Re: advice I think it's normal to go through phases of worrying about one thing or another with our kids. Just follow your instincts and this germaphobe phase will pass. Guest guest
Honestly, I see germs as a good thing - a way to naturally build immunity to things. I don't care about germs in the least - DS plays on the floor in icky public places like bus stations, eats food that has fallen on our floors (which I do know are semi-clean), and plays with kids who have runny noses. He's fine. He's hardly ever sick. As far as the milk, if you're doing cow's milk, you should do raw - pasteurized, homogenized cow milk has very little, if any, nutritional value, as it is so far removed from what nature intended. It's hard to digest because the natural enzymes in it have been killed by pasteurization. Guest guest
Hi Sheree,You mention psorias in your post, I also have psorias and terrible joint pain, it was only when I had an MRI scan that a diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis was made because it showed odema and inflamation of the tendons which connect the joints. This is an auto immune disease do you know if you have been tested for hashimotos? It is quite usual to have several auto immune problems. I also have a diagnosis of fibromyalgia and I am exhausted ,you will find many of us who are hypothyroid are told that the flu like ache and pain in muscles and joints and the resulting fatigue is fibromyalgia yet many of those who have decided to treat with NDT or T3 have found that the joint and muscle pain goes. With a TSH of 4.2 you would be diagnosed as hypothyroid in the USA Sweeden ,the netherlands, belgium etc. If your metabolism isn`t functioning properly then lots of bodily functions wont function at their optium level thats why the symptom list is getting bigger. Follow Sheilas advice write to your doctor asking for all the tests. Supplement with the vits and minerals if needed and arm yourself with as much knowledge as possible. goodluck .
