Hi there!

My name is Jeanne and I went to the 'Think Beyond Pink' conference a couple

months ago. I have hypothroidism for the past 15 yrs. and am taking both

synthroid and

compounding thyroid- long story but its working well for me.

I took the 24hr. urine test

.. iodine was at 77%,-90% being ideal; bromide was 3.3 on a <5 scale flouride

2.16<1.3

So, I think I look pretty good except for the flouride. I've stopped brushing

with flouride toothpaste and we have a good under the sink water filter and

shower filter.

Can I ask a couple questions?

- started taking only 12.5mg. of iodorol a few days ago along with proper

supplementation and 1/2tsp. celtic salt. I take meds on empty stomach upon

awakening

and wait 4 hrs. to take Iodorol. Is that a safer way then to take them both

together?

- Got my TSH blood test yesterday to have a reference point before and after

even though I understand the TSH can be elevated for as much as 6 mos.

- regarding only taking unrefined salt- what about sodium in snacks and holiday

time dish sharing where unrefined salt is probably being used- soooo.. no potato

chips :-)

Hi Jeanne:

The only thing I can comment on here is taking your Meds on an empty stomach. Unless of course you mean prescribed medications, which I know nothing about. But if you're referring to any kind of SUPPLEMENTS, these usually are best taken with food.

Since Iodoral is enteric-coated it won't dissolve in the stomach anyway, so I don't know if it matters when you take that.

Go ahead and enjoy those potato chips.

Do not take any other supplements with your thyroid medication. But iodine is

best

taken with food. Even Iodoral, because food starts proper degestive processes

that the Iodoral will benefit from. The only thing I do is I put 1/4 to 1/2 tsp

unrefined

salt in my glass of water that I take my thyroid hormone with. It starts my day

by

getting my salt going early.

The reason for taking thyroid on an empty stomach is that we don't want the

digestive system stimulated. It is supposed to pass through the stomach with as

little action on it as possible, in order to get the hormones into your system.

Hormones don't normally go into the stomach and through the intestines, so we

are

fooling our body into taking the hormones that way. That way you don't lose

hormone to the digestive process and the physiological processes can allow

absorption etc.

It is well to avoid snacks with refined salt on them. The closer you can get

your diet

to unrefined salt only, the healthier your mineral balance and therefore better

health

you'll have. A lot of products are using unrefined sea salt now, but of course

not

Lay's and Doritos.

Even taking my Armour Thyroid with a cup of nettle tea rendered the Armour

ineffective! I deduced this after something I read on this list. After my doctor

accused me of not having taken the Armour because of low hormone levels in my

recent bloodwork I was piqued. So it was a relief when someone mentioned that

calcium binds with the thyroid medicine, and it dawned on me there's calcium in

nettles.

Thank all of you who responded! , how long do you wait before taking your iodineafter taking your thyroid medication with salt? Do you wait four hours before taking any supplements as the synthroid meds recommend?I take a lot of supplements and only wait 1-2 hrs after.Thats getting a bit late for me. I took my iodorol and have tons of energy in the evening time but not being able to. get to sleep till 0200ish!I read that you shouldnt take iodine past 2:00 for this very reason but I took mine at noonand it is still too late - and I'm only taking 12.5mg. hmmm...Sent from my iPadOn Dec 22, 2011, at 1:16 AM, " Baker" <vbaker@...> wrote:

Hi!You don't need to wait four hours for the iodoral, although I take my thyroid meds and hydrocortisone for adrenal fatigue and do not eat or take anything else for one hour. That way the thyroid meds don't have any competition in the stomach and can be fully absorbed. As for TSH, it really isn't an indicator of thyroid function - it gives a general idea but doesn't really tell you how your thyroid hormone is doing. It is a reading of your pituitary gland and how much thyroid it is asking for - if we are taking medication then hopefully our pituitary gland won't be asking for more thyroid (or at least not a lot more) since you are giving your body what it needs. The labs that really tell you how your thyroid is doing are the Free T3 and Free T4. The TSH is helpful in telling you if your adrenals are messed up because your TSH will be low while your Free T3 and Free T4 are also low, but it doesn't even tell you how they are messed up and how to address the problem. My TSH is currently at 0.001 which most endocrinologists would say is way too low, but my Frees are right, my temperature is right (after years in the 96-97 range and being cold and achy all the time), my cholesterol is finally correct even though I changed my diet years ago, I am losing weight, my pulse and blood pressure are good. So low TSH will not lead to death as the docs like to tell us, it will lead to feeling better, to looking better, and to regaining life after mistreatment for thyroid trouble.

The warning on the label for synthroid is no supplements for four hours but my holistic dr.said it is more calcium. I also just heard from another dr. that iron shouldnt be taken either.I make milk kefir and would love to have it for breakfast but I wait till the evening time.I do have a green drink every morning though. How long do you wait between morning thyroid medicine and taking your iodine?Sent from my iPadOn Dec 22, 2011, at 8:46 AM, "sthumming" <smcguirk62@...> wrote:

It's not just the calcium, it's ANYTHING food-like in the belly interferes with

the

body's ability to use the hormones. Herb tea, anything.

If you eat food an hour after taking the thyroid hormone, there is no reason you

can't take supplements at the same time. Supplements are just selective food.

That's what I do. Once the hour is passed, I do everything I need to do.
