Guest guest
, Thank you so much for that information. I am reading about bromide detox. Have had an intermittent atrial fibrillation for the last 5 yrs (only about 1-2 episodes per yr) and I wondered if the iodine affects afib... or the bromide detox.... or is it only the dessicated thyroid that might cause palpitatns? I think I should get solid w/ the supplements & vitamins before starting the thyroid supp.--right? There is a big difference between iodine contrast and iodine that is ingested. I have no problem w/taking Iodoral. Very few people are actually allergic to iodine. You might read Dr. Brownstein's book first, and understand iodine and bromide detox that can occur when first starting to take iodine. I thought I was allergic to iodine because I couldn't even eat shrimp or take a multi vitamin that had iodine in it without having reactions. I thought sure I was having allergic reactions to iodine until I read Dr. Brownstein's book about bromide detox. It took me a year to be able to take 50mg Iodoral without bromide detox reactions. I am 72 and will probably keep taking iodine the rest of my life mainly as a breast cancer preventive as there is so much breast cancer in my family. I am also hypothyroid and have hashimotos thyroiditis along with celiac disease and autoimmune lyme disease. I have autoimmune written all over me. LOL V >> Hello... I am new to the group, w/ recently diagnosed hypothyroidism (weight gain, leg edema, hair loss etc.), and was advised to look into starting the iodine protocol.> 25 years ago, however, I had a severe reaction (hives) to IVP dye minutes after a kidney x-ray. Months later, had mild reaction to eating a mussel--so I avoid mussels but I still eat all other shellfish with no problems. (Just by accident, I began using organic Real Salt 5 mths ago so I'm obviously ingesting iodine without reactions)> > I do eat organically. Would like to at least start the supplements, vitamins, etc. you have listed in the new member's doc. > But is it safe to take Lugol's ( & in what dosage) w/ my history? I do have a doctor in N. Ky. who is willing to listen to alternative options, dessicated thyroid, etc. for which I'm grateful. > > Wondered if anyone else knows how to "test" whether I might react to iodine. At the time, I was not told to avoid iodine, merely never to have another IVP!> > Many thanks. This group is reassuring to someone just starting out treatment for hypo.> > Diane>
