hello pigpen

i am not an iron expert by any means but i beleive you need to have your

transferrin and transferrin saturation levels checked

http://labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/tibc/tab/test

iron, copper and zinc are inextricably linked and they need to be in their

proper ratios and if for example two of the three are high then the third one

will be low.

apparently inability to use iron can be caused by being low copper (and low

copper can = high zinc) and another thing that stops iron being used is our old

friend low stomach acid! your vit b12 is very low too and that may well be

implicated. folate, b12 and b6 also need to be in proper balance ...do you

supplement with folic acid ...if you do, it would probably be a good idea to

give it a miss (but i would start sublingual b12 in any event plus a good

quality b complex).

confused about the serum ferritin and serum iron levels since one seems to be

low in the range whilst the other seems to be high out of range.
