Hi can any one tell me why i am so hot all the time at night i lay on

top of the bed with only a cotton nightie on eventually i will cover up.

To day i went to town and although the shops were very warm i was

roasted alive 2 hours later in my spanish class every one commented

that i looked flustered or something even now at 7p.m. i am still

suffering from overheating. I am on 4 1/2grains erfa thyroid.

I wonder whether you might be on too high a dose as suffering

such heat is a symptom of hyPERthyroidism Marie. I would try cutting your dose

back by half a grain and see if that helps.

Also, have you recently had any of the following tests done to

see whether any of these specific vitamin and mineral levels are low in the

reference range: iron, transferrin saturation%, ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin

D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc. If any of these are low, they need to

be supplemented so the thyroid hormone can be properly utilised in the cells.

Like you Marie I have to lie on top of the bed at night but without anything on

and I'm sweating all over. In the daytime I can be boiling hot like you or

freezing cold. I've been like that since 1996 and if anything it looks like it

has gotten worse lately. Sometimes I feel that the progesterone cream that I use

is helping a bit. I'm on about 2 1/2 grains NDT but I was like that when I

wasn't on anything!!. I give up and try and ignore it, maybe one day it will go

away (with me). During the daytime it is worse if I get agitated but at night

time I am hardly agitated, hopefully I am asleep.....Val

This is quite a co-incidence. My doctors have always blamed it on the menopause,

which I believed until I realised that hot flushes are supposed to come and go,

not be permanent. I gave the constant heat (although my body temperatures were

actually low) to Dr.Myhill and received the reply yesterday. This is what she

had to say about the heat in relation to food fermenting in the upper gut.

" If foods are fermented then there is a release of heat and this may explain

s constant feeling of being uncomfortably hot. A comparison can be drawn

with ruminants such as horses and cattle who rely on fermentation for digestion

of grasses. This generates large amounts of heat and indeed these animals run a

body temperature three or four degree's higher than that of humans. This

illustrates the power of gut fermentation to generate heat. 's symptoms of

recurrent mild thrush again would square with a fermenting gut because of

yeast " ....

I will also say that since I started on the Candida reduction protocol, low

carb, no sugar and Fluconazole tabs, that I have actually started feeling as if

I have a normal temperature. Namely I have to wear a sweater when out, not just

a t'shirt and I don't have permanent desires to throw myself naked into

snowbanks or icy rivers. Plus I am starting to fight hubby for the quilt again,

he got rather too used to sole control of it, I think.

I hope this is helpful.

The heat thing is two fold; firstly the thyroid dysfunction causes hormonal imbalance and this involves the adrenals too. Then secondly you may be taking too much NDT supplement.

To bring things under control you need to concentrate on supporting your adrenal glands and that may include DHEA rather than an individual sex hormone the DHEA will convert to whichever hormone is deficient. Also vitamins and minerals to support the adrenal glands.

It may be that the hot flashes are due to menopause? that is also hormonal imbalance. I think you might have mentioned if this were to be the case though.

Then further are you taking too much NDT? I say this because it may be causing a slight hyperthyroidism. If you are taking NDT whilst it has some T3, T2, T1 etc., it is mainly T4. If your body is needing T3 then you will take a high dose of NDT to get the amount of T3 your body requires to feel well. In doing to you are overdoing the T4 and this may be slightly tipping you over into hyperthyroidism. You can have hyper symptoms and remain hypo too.

So check your basal temperature and pulse; this will highlight your thyroid function; then also check three hourly through the day for 5 days, both temp and pulse. This will highlight your adrenal function....Perhaps it will become more obvious what is happening to your body as a result of those recordings.

Another pointer could be B12, as I had my first of 3 injections on Thursday and

today is the first day I have had to put a jumper on in over a year. Even in the

depths of minus 22C last year I would wear a coat with only a t'shirt and a

scarf. Last night also I was wishing for a hot water bottle. I will check my

temperature as soon as I get a new battery, but before the B12 and the

Fluconazole the daily temp was 36.2 and the morning, basel temp averaged 35.8.
