Guest guest
Hi everyone. Just got my 24 hour urine Thyroid Hormone test back from Genova. Was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what they mean. T3: 917 (592-1850) T4: 909 (347-1994) T3 to T4 Ratio: 1 (0.5-2.00) So they would appear to be within the normal range (they are in the green boxes) so does this mean my problem is not thyroid related? Would it be worth me trying some thyroid hormones to see if they help? Thanks! J
Guest guest
Your results, although within the reference interval show that your free T4 is OKish but for somebody not taking any thyroid hormone replacement it should be just above the middle of the reference range which is about where it is, but that your free T3 (the ACTIVE thyroid hormone that needs to get into every cell in your body and brain to make them function) is low. Free T3 should be in the upper third of the reference range. How do you feel? What symptoms do you have and what signs are you showing, and are there any members of your family who have a thyroid or autoimmune disease? Have they tested you to see whether you have antibodies to your thyroid i.e. TPO and Tg Ab? If not, ask for these tests to be done, especially if this runs down the family line. You also need to get your levels of iron, transferrin saturation%, ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc tested. Go to our FILES SECTION thyroid treatment and in the Menu on the Home Page, click on FILES. On the page that opens, click on the FOLDER entitled 'MEDICAL QUESTIONNAIRES' and answer the questions there and see how you score for low adrenals, low magnesium and systemic candidiasis. let us know how you score. Also, is there any chance you could be suffering with mercury poisoning caused through amalgam fillings? Luv - Sheila Hi everyone. Just got my 24 hour urine Thyroid Hormone test back from Genova. Guest guest
Thank you so much Sheila. It's fantastic to have someone as knowledgeable as you willing to give your input. Much appreciated ! > How do you feel? Crap. Pretty much house bound. Unable to do physical activity without feeling quite ill afterwards. (I'm 22, male btw). > What symptoms do you have and what signs are you showing? Cold hands / feet. Ill feeling and exhausted on waking. Exhaustion on activity. Flu type symptoms and general malaise on activity. Brain fog. Bouts of a very tickly chronic cough...not like a cold cough at all. > Are there any members of your family who have a thyroid or autoimmune disease? Yes, my aunt has scleroderma. I am reticulin R1 +ve which apparently indicates a possible gluten intolerance even though I am -ve for coeliac antibodies. Have since come of gluten a few weeks ago - no difference yet. > Have they tested you to see whether you have antibodies to your thyroid i.e. TPO and Tg Ab? Will ask for TgAb. TPO is > 20. > You also need to get your levels of iron, transferrin saturation%, ferritin, > vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc tested. Recent tests from Dr: Serum 25 OH Vitamin = 127.6 nmol/L (taking 4000 IU / day at the time) 123.2nmol/L D3 4.4nmol/L D2 B12 > 1500 (taking 5mg / day) Serum Folate > 20 ug/L Serum albumin = 49g/L Serum alkaline phosphatase = 76 iu/L Serum calcium = 2.49 nmol/L Corrected serum calcium level = 2.37 nmol/L Serum creatinine = 75 umol/L Serum inorganic phosphate = 1.33 mmol/L Serum potassium = 4.5 mmol/L Serum sodium = 142 mmol/L Serum total protein = 74g/L Serum urea level = 4.9 mmol/L Serum bicarbonate = 25 mmol/L Ferritin = 103 Magnesium = deficient (in mitochondria test, was about 0.7 but I'm not sure if that was blood level or something else...anyway been doing lots of transdermal + oral magnesium since then: past 6 months. Again no difference in how I feel. Copper and zinc are slightly low again on mitochondria test. Have been taking extra of these for about 6 months also (+multivit for 6 months before that). Will ask for transferrin saturation. > low adrenals, low magnesium and systemic candidiasis. Had two adrenal tests and treatment in between. First test - resistive stage, second test - all in normal range apart from slightly low DHEA. But much recovered. Tested for magnesium as part of mitochondria test (see above). Taking lots of transdermal and oral magnesium since. Had a gut test and all seems to be fairly in order there, no candida anyway. > mercury poisoning caused through amalgam fillings? Don't have any amalgam fillings. Other known problems: Mitochondria dysfunction as shown by Dr M's tests: low magnesium, ATP etc. Hypoglycemia: very low short chain fatty acids. Odd TFT test (maybe because I was taking iodine at the time I know now): TSH 8.10 (0.27-4.2) fT4 22.7 (12-22) fT3 6.1 (3.1-6.8) then back to TSH of 1.6 a few weeks later :S. Even though I have been taking all the stuff for mitochondria for about 6 months now I have noticed absolutely no difference which makes me think maybe my thyroid is holding everything back. Where is a good place to buy some thyroid hormones? What brand do you recommend...amour? And with these results should I do just t3 or t3+t4? What is a good amount to start with? I think I will try going on these as I will not see Dr P for another 2 months...not sure I can stand another 2 months like this. Thanks so much for your help. Guest guest
They may be normal but they are not optimal; I had thyroid symptoms on levels higher than those, and was diagnosed hypothyroid (by symptoms, mainly) with levels higher than those. In his book , Dr Hertoghe - who is an expert on hormone replacement, said: "watch out for low levels of T3 (under 1500 pmol/24h) and/or t4 (under 1800pmol/24h)". Your results: > T3: 917 (592-1850)> T4: 909 (347-1994)> T3 to T4 Ratio: 1 (0.5-2.00) I would go by symptoms as much as tests; though in this case it sounds like the symptoms and tests confirm where at least part of the problem may lie? chris >> Hi everyone. Guest guest
J have you had Vitamim A tested? DHEA? Cortisol (inc CBG)? Testosterone, SHBG, FH, LSH? I would ask for these to be done, too. Pregnenonlone would be good too, but doubt NHS would test for that. Pregnenolone is what other hormones are made out of. >Where is a good place to buy some thyroid hormones? What brand do you recommend...amour? No, I don't think anyone recommends Armour now after it was reformulated. People often recommend Erfa: http://www.valuepharmaceuticals.com/Armour-Thyroid.php - it'll take a while to recive the order though, perhaps around a month and you may have to pay VAT and 8pound handling fee on that. Some people do ok on Naturethroid though this was reformulated too and I think less people do well on this now (but may be wrong). If you wanted to get Naturethroid in a hurry you could order from www.internationalpharmacy.com and select the express delivery (think it's 48-72 hours ) but it's pricy that way. Are you sure your adrenal function is ok? What adrenal tests have you done? >And with these results should I do just t3 or t3+t4? What is a good amount to start with? I cannot advise you on dosing. I myself take Erfa, started at 30mg, increasing every 10 days by 15mg. I'm now on 90mg (1 1/2 grains) and doing ok on this. For a long time I could not tolerate more than say 1/4 mcg (old) Armour or Naturethroid, but what helped me is correcting low copper, low Vitamin A, stopping zinc as it was very high, increasing ferritin (yours doesn't look too bad)?, low vitamin D, taking pregnenolone, taking DHEA and raising potassium levels (not a problem for you by look of it but mine were 3.7). One or more of those things enabled me to tolerate thyroid. I also take testosterone, growth hormone (very low dose) and melatonin (sleep, but helps with T4 > T3 conversion). chris > > > Where is a good place to buy some thyroid hormones? Guest guest
Thanks for the excellent info Chris. I'll ask my GP if she can do as many of those tests as possible and in the meantime get hold of some Thyroid Hormones. J > > > > Hi everyone.
