Guest guest
Hi May I please have an opinion for a friend of mine here in Italy who has just done the saliva test with Genova to add to the rest of her tests - she's already taking B12 and zinc, but would like confirmation on whether she has a thyroid problem or just the adrenal problem, and what she can do to help herself. Her cholesterol is high, and she believes her mother must have had hypthyroidism though she was never diagnosed before she died. She's suffering sleeplessness, loss of eyebrows, lack of libido, tiredness, sluggishness, has put on weight, and has very low body temperatures - many of the symptoms. Most definitely she has many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism and sounds to have many of the signs too.. Cortisol Levels Inside Range Outside Range Sample i PostAwakening 12.9 Sample 2 (+ 4-5 Hours) 3.9 Sample 3 (+ 4- 5 l-Iours) 2.9 Sample 4 (Prior to Sleep) 2.7 Total Daily Cortisol 0 21.7 Range 21 - 41 nmol/L DHEA Levels Sample 2 (am) L 0.15 Sample 3 (pm) L 0.17 DHEA: Cortisol Ratio 0.74 Unfortunately, there is no way we can help with interpreting test results without the reference range for each of the tests done. The reference ranges changes throughout the day, so if you can add these to her cortisol level samples, this would help enormously TSH 1.540 (0,270-4,200) FT3 2.92 (1,80-4,60) FT4 1,230 (0,900-1,700) TG Ab 10,86 ( >115,00) TP Ab 7,9 ( >34,00) The thyroid function test results look OKish, though fT4 could be higher and she doesn't appear to have thyroid antibodies, at least, not at this point in time. However, we do know you cannot diagnose by blood test results only and symptoms, signs and family history should be taken into consideration. Total cholesterol 255 (<200) LDL cholesterol 166 (<140) Both of these are high - but she could help lower cholesterol by taking high doses of Niacin (vitamin B3) i.e. 350mcgs daily and high doses of CoEnzymeQ10 (300mgs daily). She should also take high doses of vitamin C (2000mngs daily), Vitamin B complex, Selenium 200mcgs daily and zinc. Zinc 784 (600-1200) Zinc is low Vit B12 348 (200-900) B12 should be right at the top of the reference range so this is far too low. She needs to take sublingual B12 1000mcgs twice daily until her level starts to rise and then keep on a maintenance dose of 1000mcgs daily. Iron 53 (33-193) - this is very low and needs supplementing. She should talk to her GP about this. Ferritin 82 (13-150) - this is OK. Vitamin D (25OH) 39,500 ng/ml (10,000÷100,000) - not sure how to interpret this - though others will be able to.. Luv - Sheila _
Guest guest
Thank you very much Sheila. Sorry, forgot to add the reference ranges for cortisol and DHEA. Here they are:- Cortisol Levels reference range > Sample i PostAwakening 12.9 12 - 22 > Sample 2 (+ 4-5 Ho 3.9 5 - 9 > Sample 3 (+ 4- 5 l- 2.9 3 - 7 > Sample 4 (Prior to Sleep) 2.7 1 - 3 > Total Daily Cortisol 0 21.7 21 - 41 > DHEA Levels > Sample 2 (am) 0.15 > Sample 3 (pm) 0.17 DHEA mean 0.16 0.20 - 0.70 > DHEA: Cortisol Ratio 0.74 0.6 - 3.0 I've passed on the information to her and she sends her grateful thanks. I await your comments on the above. Thank you again and best wishes alicia > > Hi > > Most definitely she has many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism and sounds to > have many of the signs too.. >
Guest guest
Thank you very much Sheila. Sorry, forgot to add the reference ranges for cortisol and DHEA. Here they are:- Cortisol Levels reference range > Sample i PostAwakening 12.9 12 - 22 - This is too low. Cortisol secretion should be at it's highest first thing in the morning to help you get through the daily chores. > Sample 2 (+ 4-5 Ho 3.9 5 - 9 - This is below the bottom of the reference range > Sample 3 (+ 4- 5 l- 2.9 3 - 7 - This too is below the bottom of the reference rangte > Sample 4 (Prior to Sleep) 2.7 1 - 3 - This level should be at the lowest in the reference range to allow her to go to sleep through the night, I should imagine she finds sleeping very difficult She is suffering with low adrenal reserve (adrenal fatigue) and would be helped by starting a course of Nutri Adrenal Extra. See our FILES SECTION and check the FOLDER entitled 'Discounts on Supplements and Tests' and then check out the 'Nutri Ltd' document. You will see that TPA members can get a 33% discount on supplements by ordering direct and quoting the TPA reference number. She should take 1000mgs vitamin C, Selenium 200mcgs, zinc and a good brand of B-Complex. Hope this helps Luv - Sheila

Guest guest
Hi Trish, she didn't have copper tested so I'll suggest she does. The levels you asked about were Triglycerides 67 (<200) HDL 76 (>43) LDL 166 (<140) LDL/HDL 2.18 (<3.00) Tot.Chol/HDL 3.36 (<5) Thanks for the link too, very interesting article which I've passed on to her to read. best wishes >> > hi alicia> > sheila said: Zinc is low> > zinc, copper and iron are inter-related ...i would say she really needs to have her copper level tested too in order to see the full picture...if zinc is low then copper might be high.> > http://www.drlwilson.com/articles/copper_toxicity_syndrome.htm>> > > trish >
