Guest guest
Hi : What great progress is making! :-)) Isn't it wonderful how being with other people and being distracted really helps them control and boss back the OCD. It sounds like you are connected with a really good psychiatrist now. How nice to see that they are not threatened by the idea that maybe you will need to look at a clinic for and not just work with them. This doc sounds like a keeper to me. Please keep us posted on 's progress. I am sure will find the CBT very helpful in learning how to boss back his OCD. Take care, aloha, Kathy (Ha) kathyh@... Guest guest
, it is great that you are finding out more information to help your child. I was interested in the meds that your son is on. Buspar has been suggested by our new PDoc. Could you share with me what your child takes this for and if there have been any side effects? I just think it is wonderful that your guy will take meds. Our son has fought them because of side effects and contamination. He was on Luvox for while but never got to a theraputic dose. He is 15 so in our sate has a say in matters like that. He asked about a herbal remedy. We might try that. Vivian in wa. st. _____________________________________________________________
Guest guest
Vivian, is on buspar for the anxiety. In addition to the OCD, Aspergers, ADD he has GAD which is general anxiety disorder. The Klonopin is also for anxiety and he takes this 1/2 mg. 4x's a day. We increased his dosage for luvox the same day we started the klonopin, but I feel strongly that the Klonopin has made the big difference. We had tried the Klonopin before for bad anxiety attacks and it really helped him. I don't really feel that the buspar has helped him and I will talk to his psychiatrist about this next week when we go back. Buspar has really helped a lot of people with their anxiety. I think now sees what it feels like to feel a little more normal.... and I haven't had to nag him about taking his meds in several days now. Take care Vivian and keep us posted. mary from La. ruth porter wrote: > From: ruth porter <ruth2b4@...> > > , it is great that you are finding out more > information to help your child. Guest guest
HI Vivian: Yes, we are lucky to live about 70-100 miles from these great beaches and resorts. On the other hand this is a mental health services wasteland. I also hope the ambience will make doing tough E & RP more palatable. Guest guest
Wow , way to go!! I think maybe your initial BF measurement was too high (maybe from some extra water weight) but who cares if you are now a lot lower than you were a week ago! Tell your wife good luck too - you will not believe how cool it is to workout with someone else. Now you have your individual goals and a common goal together!! Keep up the great work, . Jen B. > Well, after one week of the challenge (preceded by one week of just the diet), I have lost 8 pounds and feel terrific. Have you heard from the possibility of surgery of a big part of your liver, sometimes till 60-75% and your liver grows again to normal within a year? I don't know that 's possible for you but at least I know one woman who had metastases in liver from lungcancer and her liver was surgery removed for 50%. And now all is fine again. Guest guest
Congratulations! That's great news. I just read another post where said " Make a conscious decision to kick ass. " . Sounds to me like that's exactly what you've done, and dammit if it didn't work just like it should have... :-) Libby progress Well....since the fourth and my new quest of " perfect " days I have shown myself that BFL works big time (all you gotta do is follow the rules...ha ha). Actually started a little before the fourth. On June 30th I started my third challenge, this time with " perfect " days in mind. Before I was pretty good...never missed a workout, ate pretty clean...but like many of you know I have had a hard time giving my my alcohol during the week. (I am saying even ONE little rum and diet wouldn't " hurt " but then even though my body is getting harder and stronger I was still fighting the fat stomach mode...so obviously something was up). So Since June 30th I have made a huge effort to be " perfect " as much as possible. Since then I have had 6 perfect days, one freeday and two days of doing everything right except " failed " on the rum and diet coke those two days only (the fourth and the fifth)with a little extra unauthorized meals due to the holiday...Anyway...the good news is that I am down three and a half lbs just since the 30th. (I only have ten or so lbs to go so as we all know...the last ones are the hardest.)....Stomach BE GONE!!!I say!!!! Pat

Guest guest
Your child's teacher is full of bologna! Not only must students show progress, they must show MEANINGFUL progress, and there is not a " statute of limitations " like she is telling you. Does your teacher have some DATA to show you? I would be asking for DATA....and if data (if they have even bothered to collect any) doesn't demonstrate documented progress...well, he needs a change in methodology or placement. (Do not let them change the goals...usually when there is a documented lack of progress or even regression, the first thing they want to do is dumb down the goals. What needs to change is the methodology they are using to teach the goals!) You could easily have a win-able due process if there is no progression, particularly over a lengthy amount of time. I don't think six weeks alone will do it, but if there isn't some forward movement by the end of 12 weeks....plus you said he hadn't made progres in the past, either? Sounds like the district needs to do some serious changing. Have you documented all of this in writing to your special ed director and principal? Document, document, document!!! nna > I was told today by my child's teacher that the school can go for 2 yrs > legally without progress???? Is that true??? Guest guest
MARIANNA I LOVE YOU! Your posts make me smile from ear to ear. But what is the definition of MEANINGFUL progress?? Let me tell you about her data. She did get a little concerned because there was not ANY data. Then she came up with 6 weeks of data in one night. She just remembered what kind of prompting was done from day one till now - 6 weeks later. The sad thing is my teacher is actually wonderful. Masters in special ed. Specializing in autism and really very sweet. BUT LET ME SAY THIS, SHE DOES NOT AN EFFECTIVE AND COMPETENT SUPPORT STAFF FOR HER!!!! She needs someone to consult with on a monthly basis! Currently she has , otherwise known as 'slick'. OH Please. Oh and yes, nna they did want to change goals because of minimal progress. I said NO, you just have not figured out how to teach him. Have you tried ABA? That has been effective for him in the past. Oh, wait, lets not listen to the parents, especially if they are speaking the devils language. nna, the sad thing is or the good thing however you want to think about it, Mason is making progress because we have a home program. All of the things he has learned has been in my home program. His only mastered goal last year was " he will use 3 signs to communicate his needs " Well, I taught him all of those signs. The signs the school tried to teach him he did not learn, but they took credit for my three signs I taught him. Geeze. I hate to say it, but I am waiting for my voucher. Don't know what I would do with it, but I would sure like to get Mason out of public school. My options are limited. Hey, thanks for the smile nna. I sure did need it. Liz.
