You are taking 108 T4 per day and 27 T3 per day.

1 grain = 36 T4 and 9 T3

So you are already taking a little more than a 25 tablet of T3 per day.

So 1 grain plus a 25 tablet of T3 per day is a good starting point.

I would try 1/2 a tablet in the morning and then 1/2 at lunch time. Say 6am and

noon.

See how this go and if you find yourself flagging in the afternoon or evening

you could add another 1/2 at 5pm. But i always try and give 5 days on one dose

before i make a change.

Hi , are you thinking of changing to Cynomel (T3) because

you are not getting rid of all the symptoms you still have on your three grains

(120mgs Armour)? If so, it might be that you need either to add some thyroxine

(25mcgs to start with) or T3 in combination with your present Armour dose. I

would not want to swap the natural thyroid extract for T3 only until I had

tried the addition of a little T3.

If this was me, I would be tempted to carry on taking your

present dose of Armour, though I would be tempted to change your dose so I was

taking the 2 grains in a morning and the 1 grain in the afternoon, and add in 12.5mcgs

T3 for 7 days with your morning dose, and if no adverse reactions i.e.

palpitations, sweating, dizziness, feeling 'spaced out' etc.(generally symptoms

of hyPERthyroidism), I would add another 12.5mcgs about 2.00/3.00p.m. and take

that with your 1 grain of Armour. You might want to see whether this

regime will work, before deciding whether or not the dose needs further

titration.

If you feel you need to drop the NDT completely eventually, then

each time you increase your T3 by 12.5mcgs every 2 to 3 weeks, you might want

to try dropping your Armour at the same time by 30mgs.

With this game, you have to do a fair bit of experimenting until

you get the dose your body tells you it is happiest with.

Finally decided to buy some t3/cynomel from

mexico. Got the 25mcg tabs. I currently take

2 x NAX

1 grain armour

20 mgs hydrocortisone am

2 grains armour pm

plus vitamins etc inbetween c, pantothenic etc etc

Was wondering if anyone could suggest a way of starting the t3 and what to

reduce in it's place? Was thinking of 1/2 a t3 and 1 grain armour a day to

start? Does this sound ok please?

Thanks

Update

As posted here on the 12 november, I decided to buy and try cynomel as things

have never been as good for me since I could no longer get old armour, despite

not being 'normal' on that even.

It all started with my annual thyroid test at the gps. I cut out all thyroid

meds from the friday as I had my blood test on the monday. Well, you can

actually still get t3 and t4 tested on the nhs as well as tsh it would seem,

even though in the past my gp requested this and got tsh only. If your tsh is

too low t3 and t4 is done automatically, so my readings on 4/10/11 were:

serum free triiodothyronine level 3.1 pmol/L range 2.5-5.5

serum free t4 level 11.3 pmol/L range 11-23

serum tsh level <0.05 range 0.3-3.5

The only other 'odd' result from blood counts etc was:

erythrocyte sedimentation rate 12 mn/h range 2-10

Of course the gp did not leave all alone, he believes I'm on his thyroxine when

I'm on armour eek, so wanted to drop my dose even though I am pretty hypo

symptom wise with a massively swollen pie crust tongue, freezing cold, exhausted

etc etc.

Consequently I decided to experiment myself and started taking 1/2 a cynomel ie

12.5 and cut my 3 grains armour to 2. I went very hot and anxiously agitated

with mild palpitations and during my first week ended up just on the 12.5

cynomel, cutting out all armour. After a couple of days I felt really good in

the day, but exhausted around 6pm and falling asleep by 7pm. Constequently on

week 2 I took the 1/2 cynomel at 10am and another 1/4 at 2pm and had a pretty

good week.

Yesterday and today I have driven locally for the first time in a couple of

years and felt quite good, knew the distance between my car and everything else

(which helps!) did not flinch, panic, sweat, feel like everything was 'swimming'

around me, just felt relatively NORMAL!!! I am planning to add the other 1/4

cynomel as of today, probably taking 1/2 around 10 am and the other at 2pm and

see how I go on. I actually feel quite excited and hopeful, my tongue has gone

down considerably, but the biggest change is my neck, it no longer bulges at the

front and my multiple double chins look like one small double chin now - not

very attractive still I know lol. I will try the 2 x 12.5 cynomel for another

week, but am pleased so far. I guess my only query would be do I actually need

any armour/thyroxine at all and if so why?

I hope this post encourages others to keep trying as I was first ill in 1986 and

did not get diagnosed adrenal til 1995 and hypo until 2000+ and am still fine

tuning.

Thanks to everyone who helps practically and inspires me to keep trying

, this is wonderful news and I am so delighted for you.

You are probably one of the many who don't need any form of t4, so you could

probably do without the Armour and any synthetic levothyroxine. See what

develops after you have increased your dose of T3. You can increase your T3

every 2 to 3 weeks of no adverse reactions, i.e. hyPERThyroid symptom. Once you

take a dose increase and you start to feel palpitations, dizzy, sweaty, spaced

out a couple or so hours after taking it, then this is telling you that you

have now found the level of thyroid hormone your body needs, so the next day,

drop back that latest dose to the dose you were on before the increase and that

is often the dose your body needs for the rest of your life.

isn't it exciting when you suddenly find you are regaining your

normal health and life?

Well done.

Thank you so much, Sheila, I am buzzing even more now! Cannot believe I might be

nearly normal lol

Will keep posting updates :-)
