Guest guest
Do any of you have conjunctival chalasis, which is when the conjunctiva of the eye (the film that covers the eyeball) becomes very loose and wrinkles up causing discomfort and irritation as if there is something continually in your eye? I have had it for the last couple of years and have found an article saying:- " One prospective study found that the prevalence of conjuctival chalasis in patients with autoimmune thyroid eye diseases was as high as 88%.8 So, make sure to rule out any association with thyroid disease. If thyroid disease is present, an endocrinologist should initiate systemic treatment. " If anyone`s interested, the link is :- http://www.revoptom.com/content/d/therapeutics/c/14906/ and the comment is under " Risk Factors " . I`d be interested to know if anyone else has wrinkly conjunctiva. Jane
Guest guest
Hi Jane It's horrible I had this for several years on and off, then thank goodness it resolved itself. I was only diagnosed with " dry eye " and told it was connected with arthritis (which I have). They put " smart plugs " in my eyes which slightly improved things. Then referred me to Rheumatology who thought I had fibromalgia, as we know now it was inadequate thyroid treatment. Now on T3 my eye problems have virtually gone. They don't feel sore and gritty and look permanently red & puffy any more. What treatment have they offered you? Are you on meds for thyroid? I do hope yours will be much better soon. > > Do any of you have conjunctival chalasis, which is when the conjunctiva of the eye (the film that covers the eyeball) becomes very loose and wrinkles up causing discomfort and irritation as if there is something continually in your eye? >
Guest guest
Hi - your email name always makes me laugh ! Yes I started on Levo back in August but I had been on it previously a couple of years ago when my thyroid was unstable. Its taken over a year seeing different GPs, like you going to Rheumatology, then Sleep Apnoea clinic and finally finding out for myself that it was my thyroid playing up again. I then changed GPs and this present one identified it straight away. Am attending the Eye Clinic as well and the consultant has prescribed some special drops, but I haven`t a clue what they are because the chemist has had the script for 2 months saying its difficult to get hold of. Mine is an auto-immune prob - is it the same with you? These are the people that the article says are more likely to get this eye prob. It`s amazing all the different things that are linked to auto-immune thyroid probs. I`m pleased your eyes are clearing up on T3 - you`ve given me some hope. Guest guest
Hi Jane Your e-name is not exactly ordinary either! Yes the arthritis is an auto-immune disease which is why the hospital made the connection. Hope that your eyes improve when you eventually get your drops. My daughter recently had to wait weeks for her asthma meds, perhaps its a new ruse to save the NHS money! Never give up hope, I am sure you will get well with proper medication and the support on this forum. > > Hi - your email name always makes me laugh ! > Yes I started on Levo back in August but I had been on it previously a couple of years ago when my thyroid was unstable.
