Ranbaxy ties up with DoctorAnywhere.com for AIDS initiative

The Hindu 25 August 2001, New Delhi

PUNE, Aug. 24

RANBAXY Laboratories, in association with the Pune-based telemedicine company

DoctorAnywhere.com is kicking off an initiative that will fulfill the increasing

need for interaction between family physicians and AIDS specialists to better

the management of therapy for AIDS patients.

The Ranbaxy Aids Webline aims to equip family physicians with updates on therapy

management trends for the disease by facilitating knowledge sharing with

specialists in the field. " Doctors will benefit tremendously through mutual

sharing of clinical cases, treatment guidelines and various other developments

available through this unique initiative, " says Mr. Sanjiv Kaul, Reginonal

Director, Ranbaxy labs.

The Webline, being managed by DoctorAnywhere.com, will leverage the power of

information technology to create a platform for community building and knowledge

sharing by bringing together AIDS specialists, family physicians who come in

contact with patients stricken by the disease routinely and NGOs, many of who

actively provide support systems to AIDS patients.

The Webline is intended to improve treatment of the disease and also help

doctors create and maintain online case records for their patients and

facilitate teleconsultation with specialists.

Doctors registered with the Webline will be able to avail of the expertise of

the specialists, place online orders for anti-retroviral therapy (ART) drugs and

also refer needy patients to NGOS working in the field. NGOs registered with the

Webline can also avail of these services, enabling them to reduce cost of

delivery of specialised healthcare and ART.

Says DoctorAnywhere.com CEO, Chetan Shetty, " The concept is all about making

access to treatment easier, quicker and less expensive, which is very important

since treatment for the disease can prove to be expensive for most patients " .
