Guest guest
Hi Sue, To me the freezing cold along with the symptom dark circles under the eyes points towards adrenal. But the cold can also be low thyroid and low iron or actually a mixture of all 3. If indeed you are low in iron 14mg is usually a very low dose, but dont just jump and take large amounts of iron as some people can only tolerate or bind small amounts of iron. You could do with getting a full iron panel (Transferrin, Serum Iron, Saturation%, and Total Iron Binding Capacity, along with Ferritin) I dont know yout story sorry, but you should be able to book a gp appointment and ask for your iron to be tested and explain that you have low iron symptoms. You could get a 24 hour sailva test done to check your adrenals unforuntely you would have to order this through genova but you do get discount for being a tpa member, check the links/files section for more info. Guest guest
Hi sue, I agree with all that Steve has said on this subject. The cold is certainly thyroid/adrenal/irondeficiency and all three are interlinked. With low adrenal function you may also notice a discolouration in other parts of your body ; mainly skin folds, so groin and undera rm? Take your temperature as basal temperature in the morning upon waking and then 3hourly throughout the day avoiding drink and food by 20mins. This will say a lot about both thyroid and adrenal health/function.  Your toe nails yes can be affected when you thyroid is dysfunctional. The ridges can be in both directions. It can affect the finger nails too, no discrimination between the two..tehe. White marks on the nails other than the 'moons' is often due to zinc deficiency. Of course with thyroid dysfunction our gut absorption is affected and we can be deficient of many minerals or vitamins and the usual balalnce between them all is disrupted as a result of this poor absorption in the gut. Interestingly I have been working outside today and previous days with nothing more than a short sleeved T shirt. I couldnt have done this last year or for many earlier years as I felt cold as you describe.....I am feeling more 'normal' than I have felt in so very long a time.....I have been supporting my addrenals for many years and my thyroid for around 6years; proper dosing and additional T3 for around 2years. This 'thing' we suffer takes a while to pull around and get back to anything like normal....checking my nails out is one way of noticing the improvement too.  Hi Sue, To me the freezing cold along with the symptom dark circles under the eyes points towards adrenal. But the cold can also be low thyroid and low iron or actually a mixture of all 3.
Guest guest
Hi Sue, You might be taking too much iron - not metabolising so it may be building up in the system. Or you need something else to take with it so it works in synergy. Just take a good multi vitamin containing iron then you aren't overloading yourself. With supplements it is odd - say for example you take Vit B for depression - after a few months when you don't need it any more you will get depressed again even though you are still taking it. Same for most when you hit the tolerance levels. Also Hashi's results in cold upper arms etc and isolated cold spots on the body and toes mine went yellow my big toes and I paid £40 to get them tested at a lab because it looked like fungus and then read iin a book it means the circulation is running slow and upped my thyroid meds and they went white again. I actually use this as an indicator of how my thyroid meds are coping. Yellow toenail up the meds. Hope this helps Best wishes Mandy
Guest guest
You may want to switch to Iron Bisglycinate, this form of iron absorbs easier and you can raise you levels quicker. Iron should be taken with Vitamin C to help the absorption. Can you take your iron at night with Vitamin C before you go to sleep? This is what many of us do. The coldness is usually lack of iron/iodine generally. Cheers, JOT
Guest guest
Hi JOT, I am replying to you as it was the last post but my response is to everyone. This is what I take now as far as medication and supplements etc. Most recomended by Dr. P - either in person or from his book: Breakfast with foodT4 = 125 mcgNutri Adrenal Extra = 2 tabletsNutri Thyroid = 4 tabletsVit C = 2000 mgIso D3 with Isoflavones = 2000 IUIntrinsi B12/Folate = b12 is 500 ugCoEnzyme Q-10 = 30mgliquorice/ginseng tincture = 25 drops Lunchtime with foodNutri Adrenal Extra = 1 tabletVit C = 2000 mgBoron = 3 mgChelated Manganese = 5mgMagnesium Citrate = 100 mgE-400 = 268 mgCalcium with D3 = 600mg calcium and 125 I.U. Vit DBeta Carotene = 15 mgChromium Picolinate = 200 mcgZinc + Vit C = 15mg zinc + 60mg Vit CPriobotic from healthspan = 1 tablet 4pm no foodsilymarin = 88mgVit C = 1000 mgMulti vit = 1 ... this is where the iron 14mg comes fromAM and PMGreen Serenity cream Gosh looks like I am a walking dispensary. Now I have taken most of those from day 1 back in December 2010 although spent few months increasing quantities to what they are now. The only exception is the T4 where I was taking 100mcg then my last diary Dr. P said to up it to 125mcg but cant say I notice any difference. That was a couple months ago. I try to eat a variety of veggies and mainly I eat chicken or fish such as cod or plaice with once a week tinned sardines in olive oil. Breakfast is nearly always oat based (porridge or granola), lunch is a soup or tomato and lettuce sandwich. I do eat other things than the above but that is the main food I eat with occasional meals out or take aways or a pasta dish .... So not sure what vitamins/minerals etc I get from the food itself. Yes I can take Iron Bisglycinate with say 1000 mg Vit C, no problem.I read in a response to someone elses post you said about taking NAX to take Vit B complex with it. I thought the NAX had the Vit B complex with it but the NA did not. I mean I take NAX but no extra Vit B as it has a lot with it. Are you saying one should take extra Vit B also? I think I will see about getting some tests done to see exactly what I am or am not lacking when it comes to iron/iodine etc, it is all getting a bit confusing for me now. I hope to hear back from Dr. P soon about my T3/T4 results which were very low. I will look into getting some Iron Bisglycinate ... Thank you everyone for help/support Sue >> You may want to switch to Iron Bisglycinate, this form of iron absorbs easier and you can raise you levels quicker. Guest guest
I would bring your vitamin D3 up to 4000/6000 iu a day, 2000iu is not enough these days.Your CoQ could come up a bit as well. NAX is missing two of the B vitamins in it's recipe so these must be added. The Bs all work together so if you are supplementing one B you must always supplement all the others. Since the NAX is lacking, you have to get those other bs (folate and biotin) from some source, A good B complex will have everything in it. I don't see here where you are taking any B12? I would add this in as well. Have you had your B12 levels tested, do you happen to know what they are? If not, start taking 1000mcgs a day as well. From what I hear people in the UK are still losing their hair even though they have been taking the proper vitamins, so I think the exclusion of Biotin and Folate in the NAX is the problem. Even people with good iron levels are having this trouble so I would certainly make sure you take that B complex everyday. And I think it's best for most folks if they start a protein drink everyday to make sure you're getting all the amino acids, etc. This drink will replace one meal during the day. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/search?rh=i%3Adrugstore%2Cn%3A65801031%2Ck%3Aprotein+\ powder%5Cc+amazing+grass & keywords=protein+powder%2C+amazing+grass & ie=UTF8 & qid=13\ 21544865 & ajr=0 http://www.iherb.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Methyl-B-12-1000-mcg-100-Lozenges/129?at=0 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jarrow-Formulas-B-Right-100-Capsules/dp/B0016003Z0 Cheers, JOT > Breakfast with food > T4 = 125 mcg > Nutri Adrenal Extra = 2 tablets > Nutri Thyroid = 4 tablets > Vit C = 2000 mg > Iso D3 with Isoflavones = 2000 IU > Intrinsi B12/Folate = b12 is 500 ug > CoEnzyme Q-10 = 30mg > liquorice/ginseng tincture = 25 drops > > Lunchtime with food > Nutri Adrenal Extra = 1 tablet > Vit C = 2000 mg > Boron = 3 mg > Chelated Manganese = 5mg > Magnesium Citrate = 100 mg > E-400 = 268 mg > Calcium with D3 = 600mg calcium and 125 I.U. Guest guest
I'm not sure about the wheat, Steve, as I don't have a gluten problem or problems with any grains. You'll have to become the expert on that end of it for us. I do know that since I started making protein drinks every morning, anything that was OFF in my system was immediately corrected. And it did that overnight. With the probiotics and all the greens and spirulina, etc.....this is a great product and I love this brand the best. I also use this product and throw a scoop of this in as well : http://www.iherb.com/Living-Harvest-Hemp-Protein-With-Fiber-Original-Flavor-16-o\ z-454-g/5136?at=0 Let us know how it goes.....
