Hi all.

I'm in the throes of self-education. A month or so ago, my doctor told me that

my thyroid function was low, which seemed (to me) to answer why I've been so

ridiculously tired for about the last year! She tells me that I'm

'sub-clinical', but I'm doing another blood test in December. I don't care if

I'm 'sub-clinical' - I'd like to do something about it because I feel about 20

years older than my age! (I'm 46).

Also, my husband had half his thyroid removed a few years ago, for nodules. He's

been feeling pretty bad for about 5 years - he thought it was a recurrence of

the M.E. he had recovered from a few years previously. However, his doctor

*finally* decided to try him on levothyroxine (he'd been monitored as

sub-clinical, this past couple of years) and he felt a tremendous effect almost

immediately. However, I think he has adrenal fatigue and this explains why he

seems rather up and down now, and isn't sure the Levothyroxine is working. (I'm

also suspicious of T4-only medication. and think we should get him on desiccated

thyroid once we have the adrenals better managed). I started doing temperature

charts for us both this week, and his already looks both low, and erratic! So

our next step is to sort out his adrenals, I think.

For me, I'll see what my next blood test says, and try to figure out what I need

to do. I think they're going to test my iron as well; anything else I should ask

them to cover while they're at it?

I'd love any advice anyone can give on all of this. :) I'm going to post a

separate question about interpreting T4 lab results.

best wishes

x Helen (and my husband Duck)
