Guest guest
Would your mum consider coming off Statins? Why is she on Levo? (Is she hypothyroid from Amiodorone for example- or naturally hypo?) If she is naturally hypothyroid then the link with heart disease is a very strong one. If this is the case it suggest to me that she is not on enough Thyroid support/the right thyroid support. Is your mum taking CoQ10? If not then she should. she should be prescribed CoQ10 by your GP to counter the problem of the statins blocking the CoQ10 her body would naturally be manufacturing. (It is the same pathway as cholesterol manufacture). I would say yes this could well have something to do with the Statin drugs. Further if your mum is hypothyroid the manufacturers of the drugs do say using Statins is not NOT recommended. Who prescribed it for her and why and did they know she was hypothyroid? There are alternatives to Statins, but generally if your mother has 'high' cholesterol this would reduce if she was taking the correct Thyroid support. One of the side effects of Statins is to cause heart disease. Yes you heard me correctly. It causes the very thing it is 'SUPPOSED' to be treating. This heart disease can be heart attack but more commonly it causes HEART FAILURE. It does this as the CoQ10 is very important to the heart muscle. The heart must beat constantly, unlike the other muscles in our body it cannot rest. For this reason it has many multiple of mitochondria contained within each of its muscle cells. Mitochondria MUST HAVE CoQ10 supplied as an antioxidant etc., to counter the hard work the mitochondria perform. Just like any factory it pollutes the environment unless counter measures are in place. CoQ10 and vitamin C/ Vitamin E/ Essential fatty acids etc., are part of that counter measure. The weakness in all muscles caused by Statins obviously also affects the heart muscle and the heart valves, the arterial muscles too. Eventually the heart enlarges and a backflow is noted. The backflow causes the lungs to fill with fluid and sadly eventually nothing can be done. Effectively the individual drowns slowly and distressingly. This happened to my mum. She wouldnt listen to me because she believed in the doctors. She had private health care and the doc did very nicely out of her thank you. Check out the car staff car park in a private hospital and see the personalised number plates on the swanky cars. You will recognise your won consultant by his/her number plate.! I have nursed many people in this situation and always thought that is not how I want to die or any of my family. I was with my mum during the end. she was very distressed and so was I. I dont mean to be a scaremonger, but if you can do try to get your mum on an alternative cholesterol lovering supplement. Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) is one. But more importantly get her on the right thyroid supplement and give her CoQ10 GEL CAPS (GP prescription on NHS) and off the statins as soon as you can. some of the damage can be reversed. My mum's been on statins for at least 20 years and has a heart problem and lungs problems. She's just said to me recently that she's getting a lot of pain in her upper arms and I wonder if this is something to worry about and connected with statins? She's on Levo (v low dose) and other drugs for her lungs but is also taking statins other drugs to control her heart beat and thinning her blood. What advice should I give her?Pam
