Guest guest
Have just watched This Morning, with Suze talking about her thyroid problems and the difficulty she had in getting a diagnosis. She came over well, even though she said she was feeling very nervous. As usual Eamonn and his partner took up too much of the allocated time, so Suze didn't have as much time to say what she wanted . She did get it over how bad it was for those suffering symptoms and signs of hypothyroidism to get diagnosed when their blood test results are normal. She apparently was refused a diagnosis until her TSH was over 10.0 - which is appalling. She got it in that she had a further problem once she did get diagnosed and that was being unable to tolerate even the tiniest dose of levothyroxine. Unfortunately, unless I was mistaken, and perhaps didn't hear, I never got to find out what thyroid hormone replacement she IS taking and whether whatever she is using she gets with NHS prescription or has to buy it from Internet Pharmacies herself. This was a shame. However, Dr Steele, as usual, was wonderful, and he came over quite powerfully when he told us all how doctors need to stop treating the blood test results and start to treat the patient, and for those patients who present with symptoms and signs yet who have normal thyroid function blood test results - to give them a trial of thyroid hormone replacement to see if that helps them. He was totally on the side of the patients, and I think that the message really did come through loud and clear that for thousands of sufferers, they are being given a really hard time by NHS doctors. They even managed to state that every time 'thyroid' came up on TV, they were inundated with responses. I thought it went well, Suze did a really good job.
