Guest guest
As Lilian says, it depends totally on the practitioner. It can be a very powerful healing therapy, but only if treatment is given by a very well-trained practitioner with a lot of experience. The standard qualification to allow public practice is an ITEC diploma, which takes several hours a week over an acedemic year, to complete - but this is not necessarily enough to produce a good practitioner. A great deal depends on the quality of the teaching and the attitude of the practitioner. Too often in English-speaking countries, it is viewed as a relaxation method, whereas in countries such as China you get a much tougher, often painful tretamnet that does a huge amount of shifting and healing. I am a qualified reflexologist, through ITEC, and did very well in my exams, but the teaching on my course was very poor and I wouldn't dream of offering treatments to paying clients! I have had pleasant but ineffective treatments from many expensive practitioners back home, and as Lillian notes, a bath is much cheaper and just as effective! But if you can find a Chinese reflexologist, chances are you will get someone who eeally knows their stuff and can detect many imbalances and help correct them, in a series of sessions. Personally, even with a practitioner like that, I would view it as a helpful supplement to medication, where thyroid issues are concerned, and not sufficient on its own.
