Bonnie: possibly the reason there isn't much information is that Type 1 diabetes

isn't really susceptible to treatment as such: it is a complete failure of the

pancreatic cells to produce insulin, which must constantly be replaced with

insulin from outside sources. In Type 2, the body produces insulin, but cells

for some reason fail to respond to it appropriately. That response can be

altered or adjusted by various means such as diet or medication. In Type 1

there is no therapeutic practice for restoring the function of dead or destroyed

insulin-producing cells: adjustments of diet or supplementation don't improve

the fundamental problem. So there is no treatment protocol that I know of

relating to Type 1.

Good Morning, All! I don't know how much this will help but here is my personal

experience. My 8 yr old son was diagnosed with Type 1 on 9/12/11. I have been

taking him to an ND since 10/28/11. She did say that iodine is helpful for Type

1 but only if that particular person is iodine deficient. My son is not

therefore I do not have him taking iodine. I guess it is the same with all

nutrients. If you are lacking in something then supplementing will help.

It can be, Flechas has a little bit of info regarding T1 diabetics. Iodine will

help with being able to decrease insulin needs.

Adjustments for diet and supplements can make a big difference though in the

amount of insulin needed. Large amounts of insulin, no matter whether produced

by one's own body or outside source are damaging to the body. Some folks

(although a very small percentage) have had success with diet, mainly gluten,

casein and soy free in eliminating T1 diabetes, usually must be started fairly

shortly after diagnosis. Even after a longer term, diet can still be very

helpful in lowering insulin needs and keeping BG stable and normal. T1 diabetes

is an autoimmune disease and iodine can help as with Hashi's.

What type of testing did she do to determine that he wasn't iodine deficient?
