Guest guest
Hi there, can I please ask those in the know, if I want to start a regime of supporting my adrenals further, should I start with a mineralocorticoid, i.e Florinef', or should I start with a glucocorticoid i.e HC ? Also, I know that I can buy Florinef on the internet easily enough but where can I get HC from (in tablet form ?) without a scrip ? I am a little nervous about the mineralocoticoid as doesn't that retain sodium in the kidneys ? I get very bad cystitis and don't want to rock the boat. many thanks, julia
Guest guest
You should start with a supplement such as Nutri Adrenal Extra that is made up of all the different minerals and vitamins needed to support the adrenal tissue. You should NOT start on Florinef or HC at this stage. Have you asked your GP if he will do a 24 hour urine test to see whether or not you are secreting high or low levels of cortisol. If not, have you done the 24 hour salivary adrenal profile, or are you guessing that you might have an adrenal problem ? Go to our FILES section (accessible from the Home Page of this forum web site). Scroll down the list of FOLDERS until you come to the one entitled 'Discounts on Tests and Supplements' and you can click on 'Nutri Ltd' and follow the instructions to order some Nutri Adrenal Extra. Follow the instructions to the letter and quote the TPA reference number to get your 33% discount. In the same FOLDER, click on 'Genova Diagnostics' and order the 24 hour salivary adrenal stress profile. Follow the instructions there and remember to write 'Thyroid Patient Advocacy' as your Medical Practitioner. Genova will send your results direct to you. When you get them, post them on the forum so we can help with the interpretation. Guest guest
I was having a very woolly day that day, obviously it matters that you get the sunshine and sleep the right way round. Its why people on permanent night shift never seem to be 'well'. Hubby has chronic Rhumatoid Arthritis and needs physical help with undressing, getting into bed etc. But unless he is doped up to the eyeballs and the medication is actually working well enough, he can't sleep. Its just too painful for him to lie down, even on memory foam. So I stay up with him, then we sleep late, then he's not tired enough and I'm not tired enough to go to bed at a reasonable time. Its a viscous circle we have gotten into, not helped by online friends who are in America, nattering till the wee small hours. Its not going to be easy to persuade hubby to change his habits, his online friends are really all he has outside of the home. In fact change that, its not going to change. If my adrenal reserves are low, would 'Prednisalone' help to give me a boost so that my own reserves can catch up (I do know of the dangers), its just that we have about 3 packets of them in the cupboard. They are a cortisone aren't they? 2 > I am sorry that you are unable to get to be until such wee hours of the > morning, this must be very frustrating, but good that you manage to sleep > through for around 10 hours. Guest guest
Hi 2 Prednisone has very little mineralocorticoid activity, so it is not used in the management of adrenal insufficiency unless a more potent mineralocorticoid is administered concomitantly. You may need only a course of an adrenal supplement that contains the vitamins and minerals required to boost the adrenal function such as Nutri Adrenal Extra. Check out our FILES SECTION on this forum, and do the Adrenal Questionnaire in the Adrenal Folder, and if you score fairly high you can do the 24 h our salivary adrenal profile to see what amount of cortisol is being secreted at 8.00a.m. - 12 noon - 4.00p.m. and again at midnight. If you are found to be suffering with low adrenal reserve, then check the FOLDER entitled 'Discounts on Supplements and Tests' and open the document 'Nutri Ltd' and you can get 33% discount by being a TPA member but you must place your order following the steps written there and quote the TPA reference number. If you need something stronger than Nutri Adrenal Extra then you should speak to your GP about this or Dr Peatfield who will advise you accordingly.
