Hi Polly

> Cannot understand why after 16 years have now become hyper!!!

I have read that T4 can sometimes stop working after some years - perhaps the

body gets less efficient at converting it? Or there can be vitamin or mineral

deficiencies that can affect thyroid uptake, and then you can have adrenal and

candida problems, too.

Did it used to work ok for you? Do you feel hyper?

I have tried the GTA Forte (not forte II) but my problems are quite different to

yours - I did find that the GTA lifted my mood though

what probs with T3?

Polly, obviously the levothyroxine you were taking is now no

longer able to convert to the active thyroid hormone T3. That is why the level

of thyroxine is so high (above the top of the reference range). Your

pituitary only secretes thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) to prompt the thyroid

gland into producing more thyroxine when it recognises there are insufficient

levels in the blood, so when it seems you have such a high amount floating

around, it has no need to secrete any TSH at all, hence it TSH remains

suppressed.

Your GP needs to test your free T3, which is likely to show very

low in the range, and he should be giving you a trial of T3, either in

combination with T4 or natural thyroid extract.

Ask him to test your levels of iron, transferrin saturation%,

ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc. If any

of these are low in the range, no amount of thyroid hormone is able to be fully

utilised at the cellular level. If you believe your doctor is likely to try to

tell you there is no association between these low levels and low thyroid then

copy out the attached document to show him just some of the references to the

scientific research and clinical studies to show that there is.

Does anyone take this along with levo? Has it

made any difference?

Dr has reduced levo from 150 mcgs to 125 mgs - TSH was 'below range' @ 0.02 (

rr = 0.4-5.0)

Free T4 was 'above range' @24.9 (rr =12.0 - 23)

FT3 was not tested !!!

Cannot understand why after 16 years have now become hyper!!!

Messages received suggested probs with T3 - so would GTA be the way to go? Any

suggestions gratefully received.

Sheila (et al) Many thanks for your reply..I have researched and thought, back

and forward up and down!!! Today I purchased online Cytomel (T3) nothing

ventured......Dr will not test any of the T3s/T4s.....cant be doing with waiting

any longer!!!! It should take about 14 days to reach me.....please could you

advise how to take...I get so scrambled looking thro the files!!!!! Originally

on 150 mcgs of levi...Dr put me down to 125 as TSH low and T$ high - I did post

the results with ref ranges...which is what you replied to. As a result severe

constipation, cold, low body temp, low pulse...so took myself back up to

150.....at the mo I feel quite angry...constipation is AWFUL TMI???!!!! Sorry. I

will be guided by you...but am prepared to go it alone with support from TPA.

Looking forwards

For the future, I have attached a list of reputable Internet

Pharmacies where you can buy thyroid hormones without prescription. This is

from our FILES SECTION in this forum web site, that you can access from the

Menu on the Home Page. There is lots of such information there.

I would first make absolutely sure that you are not suffering

with any of the associated conditions that you will find in the other attached

document, otherwise, no amount of thyroid hormone is able to work and get into

the cells. Go through each one by way of a process of elimination and

ensure that you have good levels of iron, ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3,

magnesium, folate, copper and zinc.

Why on earth do you continue to stay with a doctor that refuses

to help you????

I know that when I was on 125mcgs levothyroxine and started

natural thyroid extract, I simply stopped the levothyroxine on one day, and

started NDT the next, but NDT does have T4 in it as well as T3, T2, T1 and

calcitonin. It can be complicated cutting down the thyroxine by 50mcgs every

time you increase your T3, because it takes up to 6 weeks for T4 to completely

leave your system. If this was me, I would stop the thyroxine for a week,

and take some form of adrenal supplementation to boost your adrenals, and on

the 8th day, start with 20mcgs (or is it 25mcgs for Cytomel??), but split the

dose twice daily, taking half when you wake up and the other half in the middle

of the afternoon. The effect of T3 starts to leave you after 6 to 8 hours and

you need to 'keep the engine topped up'. After 2 to 3 weeks, you can increase

by 12.5mcgs and stay on that for another 2 to 3 weeks before increasing again

IF you have experienced no adverse reactions.

Be assured that when you are taking any form of T3, your TSH is

likely to be completely suppressed and your free T3 will be near to the top of

the reference range. Never take any thyroid hormone on the morning you have

your blood drawn for a thyroid function test as the results will be flawed.

There is actually no need to have thyroid function tests done when you are

taking T3 - you should increase/decrease by symptoms.

If you cannot see the attachments, let me know and I will send

these to you separately.

Yes Angel, and here is the proof http://medicapharma.co/Questions/Terms/terms.html

- one could be forgiven for believing the 'm' had been left off by mistook.
