Guest guest
You can start slowly, but it is not necessary. I started with 50 mg right off the bat many years ago and was fine. Many cancer patients and others with degenerative diseases start even higher. There is no rule. If it was me and I was new to iodine and I wanted to take the loading test, I wouldn’t worry about it. On another note, the iodine loading test isn't required to do before starting iodine ( I have never done one); but again, its totally a personal choice. Best, Kathleen new to group, question about starting iodine Hi I'm brand new...have read new members q & a. Here's my question: I want to do load testing before beginning iodine. But it requires taking 50 mg, and my understanding is that I need to start SLOWLY.So I'm not quite sure what to do! Thanks in advance...I'm sure moderating is a lot of work and I appreciate everyone's time and attention. JanPS. I'm hypothyroid btw.
Guest guest
There's no absolute need to do the loading test. It is not available in Europe and there are loads of us taking iodine. Chances are very high that if you have thyroid disease or some kind of breast condition that you lack iodine. I take iodine because I have Hashi and fibrocystic breast disease. My mother died of breast cancer after having it in both breasts. I had a similar health profile to her. Whilst it is always better to get a test if you can, waiting around 10 years for the loading test to be available in Europe seemed to be a bit over precautious! I just got on with it and have been taking iodine for over three years. I worked up to 50 mg over a few months. With iodine there are many warning signs that you are over doing it, so I should start small, unless you have cancer, and work up slowly. If you think you are taking too much, you can back off and adjust your dose. MacG. Guest guest
Where did the recommendation to start slowly come from? Guest guest
OK thanks all. Not sure where 'start slow' came from. Somewhere in lots of reading I'm sure, and maybe my general cautious nature when it comes to supplementing anything. I have a 4.1 x 2.3 x 2.7 cm nodule on the right thyroid lobe. Radiologist said it could be a cyst but could also be a parathyroid adenoma. Going to watch it, but any thoughts re iodine and a possible parathyroid adenoma? Thanks again!
