Why does iodine increase TSH in some people?

Hi,

I've been supplementing myself and my kids for about 6 months,. We have been on

4 drops 2% Lugols for about 6 months. Now that I have joined this group, I see

that I can go way higher in dosing.

My older son is 9, we just did thyroid labs in August and October. His TSH

continues to increase. The endo thinks it is caused by iodine, which we all

know is evil and will cause your thyroid to shut down :). This is not happening

for myself or my younger DS. According to the labs he does not have

Hashimoto's, so why would his TSH continue to increase from iodine? Or does one

have anything to do with the other?

August labs

TSH. 11.78 range ( .6-4.84)

T4. 7.0. Range (4.5-12.0)

T3. 33. Range (24-33)

FT4. 2.3. Range (1.2-4.9)

October labs

TSH. 16.905. Range (.5-4.3)

FT4. .94. Range (.65-1.9)

These are all the endo would do......

Thanks,

Janet
