Guest guest
I started on Armour Thyroid a few months ago. I've just started taking 1 tablet twice daily today. My GP had referred me to a Chemical Pathologist because I had blood tests done privately with reference to all the ones they recommend here, like D3, copper etc. The D3 & Ferritin & Iron all came back low along with some queries over other tests which were included. My TSH was 2.6 on these results. I went to the CP last Monday - I didn't tell him I was taking Armour - he thinks I'm still on Levo 75mcg but he told me my TSH was perfectly normal & my symptoms were due to being obese - up until the birth of my daughter 7 years ago I was always within a healthy BMI & after her birth I've had an underactive thyroid & have not been able to lose weight along with the other symptoms of tiredness etc. I told him I had tried cutting calories to 1100 & he told me to cut down to 600 or 800. When I told him I have 5 kids & lead a busy lifestyle he told me I must have the 'famine' gene which stores food but which would allow me to survive if there was a famine - that's reassuring to know! His first comment to me on entering the room & looking at the notes were, ' the worried well', obviously because I'd had all the tests done & he thinks there's nothing wrong. I've received a letter saying that my TSH is .6 (he redid the tests & obviously the armour is working) & the fatigue & breathlessness must be due to my BMI of 32. So, do I confess to my GP that I'm on armour, or should I just continue doing what I'm doing & get myself to the optimal dose & say nothing or should I go privately & have them keep an eye on things - I know a clinic in Belfast who will use Armour. I feel like they think it was all in my head & yet I'm not sure how they will react if they know I've taken this into my own hands & whether that will be recorded against me. I can't say I feel completely well yet on Armour - perhaps the most noticeable difference is that I no longer feel really tired mid afternoon (I split the dose) & I'm able to keep working until later in the evening instead of going to bed at 8pm. I'm also able to go for a walk in the mornings without coming home exhausted & I've lost 1 stone. Sorry for the long post but I really appreciate any advice on this. Take care, Dorothy
