Hi Miriam,

Yes, I also had this today and thought it was interesting - but, like you, I

don't know how I got on Rufus Greenbaum's mailing list. Do you know who he

is?

Hi, I received this today from Rufus Greenbaum, and thought it might be of

interest to some people. I'm not sure how I come to be on his mailing

list - did anyone else get it?

I got it too and I'm a bit worried about it as I keep separate email addresses

for different things. I had a look in the members list and he's a member here so

did he skim off our addresses or did he get the list from TPA? Perhaps the

moderators could take a look as I don't want to get unsolicited emails. Is there

a box we need to tick to say don't give my email to third parties?

Professional or something or can any member of the public attend.I will give

them a bell tomorrow to find out how I came to be on their mailing list.

HI ALL

I have only recently changed my email address, and the only online site that

even knows that I have problems with vitamin D is the TPA.

This in turn is not good if another member of the TPA is obtaining our email

addresses without out permission to do so.

I think too that the moderators should address this issue, as there could be

other issues that have breached our privacy.

I contacted him and he lifted my email off the group, probably did the same with

everyone elses. I thought members weren't allowed to contact other members off

the list without permission. I'm sending an abuse report to his ISP which is BT.

Hi Kathleen, I can assure you that this would not have come via

Special notices to all our members from the Group. The fact that you had

to give acknowledgement that you had received it tells me this. It is

impossible to send out Special Notices to all our members this way, as there is

no facilities to be able to do this. Let us know what they tell you when you

ask how it is that many members of the Group Thyroid Patient Advocacy are

receiving messages from Rufus Greenbaum. I hope this mystery then gets solved.

Meanwhile, for those of you who do not wish to receive such

messages, I would recommend you do the same as you would do with any other

messages you don't want. Either block his email, or transfer it to your

Spam/Junk box.

Personally, I received messages from him and have found the

information he sends out particular useful.

I got one too, I wondered how it came about but it must be through the forum.

Anybody who is attempting to put across the message about vitamin d is doing a

public service, and good luck to him. I won't be able to attend as I'm not in

London, but if it had worked out I would have liked to have gone. I do hope he

manages to attract enough medical professionals to make it worthwhile putting on

this event. I just think that even if they might personally feel this message

is a good one, they will not dare to step out of line just like the thyroid

situation. I wonder if he could give us a transcript of the event like we get

from the thyroid meetings?

No, only that I found his website when I did a Google search. I'll write and

ask him how I came to be on his mailing list and tell him to take me off it.

In that case, why didn't he just post about the event here himself, instead of

asking all of us publicize it?

I hate Spam and unsolicited mail of any kind with a passion and so emailed him

directly last night and though he replied this morning, he didn't even

apologise! (see below)

Rufus

I understand you've taken my email address from the TPA address list without

permission.

I take such action seriously and would request your response by way of

reassurance that my details will be removed from your database and not given to

any other third party.

Dear Jackie,

I have removed your email address from my Mailing List

Regards,

Rufus Greenbaum

I have no problem receiving emails - and I found this one about Vitamin D

particularly interesting, as I have very low Vitamin D levels. It's just

that I like to know where the emails I receive come from!

I'm not sure why you had such a terse reply as I had a very nice apology when I

wrote saying I didn't want any unsolicited emails. Maybe because your original

message to him was somewhat terse?

Is there any news on the investigation by menagement please? I too am worried about where my details might end up.On Wed, Nov 2, 2011 at 5:25 PM, khgparrish@... <khgparrish@...> wrote:

Anybody who receives a Daily Digest will know that all members email

addresses can be seen there. Rufus opted to receive a Daily Digest of messages

and this is where he obtained your email address. He has apologised and has

promised that he will not do this again.

We have put a statement on the Home Page message board asking

that members ask permission from other members if they wish to contact them off

list. As you will be aware, this very rarely happens, but when such

things are reported, the moderators quickly deal with it, as has been the

case here.
