Hi all

As you prob already know I'm now 39 weeks pregnant and my blood tests showed b12

deficient and folic acid deficit. My b12 was 144 range 188 to 900 I'm also on t4

ad t3. First if all last week my obstetrician told me to stop the folic acid

which I never did but the haematologist had basically said I need to be treated

and couldnt understand what the big deal

was. Also I had no chance To ask any questions it was a case of she told me

I need b12 injections once a week for 4 weeks then once a month for 3 months

then I

have to go back. I'm confused as I'm non the wiser as to what is happening,

also to start folc acid and not to stop it. The only question I got in wAs

Could I take a b complex also and she said no. I'm in a bit of a pickle as I

feel very confused as I believe you had to take b complex in order fo te b12 to

benefit.

Anyone has any advice I would be grateful if you could message me

sorry I couldn't get back to you.... This is good news at last you are being treated for the deficiencies!Don't mind the Haem consultant's attitude it's more likely she is more annoyed with the Obstetrician not YOU! Let him take the flak from her. Go ahead with your replacement therapy and you'll feel a whole lot better once your levels are nicely within range....Your question of taking a B complex? It's possible that it may contain folic acid and Vitamin B12. Take her advice leave it out until therapy is over. Good luck Jaki

Hi jackie

Thanks for your reply. THe haematologist said she didn't know what was inthe b

complex so she couldn't say I think her concern if it had b12 in it. I think the

b complex has folic acid in this but I was thinking I could take the complex and

not the folic acid. I just a bit nervous supplementing b12 only when the whole

factor should be considered I felt like no time was

Spent with me to go through this.

Thanks

Basically the Haem has to look after you well being . Stick with her advice and reap the benefits... If any problems arise you'll have a Haem consultant to fall back on or the nursing staff. If you feel there were questions you didn't have a chance to to put over ask the clinic staff. They can offer you advice and give you leaflets to read over. Also they can tell the Haem that you feel confused about it all. JakiPS The folic acid content in the Vitamin B complex would not be the same strength.
