Guest guest
HI DEL I find it difficult to locate what I want to know in the files section. One tends to look at the outer folder, as a guide. For instance all the Vitamins should go in a folder named Vitamins. Anything relating to tests should go into a folder called tests. What can happen is if you then have to open folders inside folders, and I too have found problems like this on my computer which I am having to sort out. I think it is best not to have folders inside folders. For instance with the folder named Electrolytes and if there are several articles about potassium you want the potassium ones to come in the same place, so the word potassium comes first followed by any further headings. Once everything is in alphabetical order its easy to scroll down. I could also do with a spelling checker on the forums. Guest guest
I find it difficult to use the files as I have to download them and then search the desk top for them to open them, can't always find them because of the amount of stuff my other half has on already. If there was a search box for buzz words that would bring up a list of stuff that applied that would be really easy to use.
Guest guest
Hi Janet, unfortunately, it is up to what we can have and what we can't. They don't allow us a spell checker unfortunately. How do you mean that you " have to download them and then search the desktop for them to open them " . You should just be able to click on the Folder holding the documents on that particular subject, and then click on the particular document you want to read, and it should open there. Perhaps you need to open a New Folder of your own so any that you can open, you simply save them in your own TPA Files Folder, to keep it separate to what your husband has on his desktop. Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, as far as I am aware, you cannot upload a folder into another folder. The folders contain documents about the particular Subject Heading of that folder only. Inside a folder, the different documents are listed alphabetically, and we cannot change that because that is automatically configured by . Also, do not give us a spell checker, so we cannot change that. Sorry! Luv - Sheila HI DEL I find it difficult to locate what I want to know in the files section. Guest guest
HI SHEILA Regarding folders inside of folders, take a peep at the more technical Thyroid group Lab gear, and BOB is the culprit. He not only places a folder inside another folder, but some have another inside of that. Also among my computer problems that I had, had lately, was that I could not open the files. I had to look into all this on the Microsoft site, and in the end I got hold of " Microsoft Word Viewer " to open them. You can either opt to save the file, or you can ask to open it, but I usually download them to the desktop and then from there send them into a TPA Folder. I have just come across a very good file on the Adrenal Glands. Kathleen > > Hi Kathleen, as far as I am aware, you cannot upload a folder into another > folder. Guest guest
Ooops! I had no idea. Perhaps you need to work with Bob and tell him where he is going wrong Kathleen. Can you do this off forum though please. Luv -= Sheila HI SHEILA Regarding folders inside of folders, take a peep at the more technical Thyroid group Lab gear, and BOB is the culprit. Guest guest
Hello Kathleen, Thanks for taking the time to respond, your comments are very constructive and have been noted. Could you please explain what you mean with the following as I don't quite understand : " What can happen is if you then have to open folders inside folders, and I too have found problems like this on my computer which I am having to sort out. " Both the Folders and the files they contain are sorted alphabetically as decreed by , although I have found some examples in the files that don't quite live up to this edict and I can't quite work out why. :-) Many thanks. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, I have the same " problem " as Janet. If I want to read a Word Document (.doc) from the files area, my Google Chrome browser has to download that document to my PC. I then have to double click it so that it runs the Word software in order for me to read it. This isn't a problem for me as Google Chrome shows the file in a little bar at the bottom of the browser window and I just open it from there. Mind you, I have umpteen dozen copies of the same document downloaded to my " Downloads " folder as it insists on downloading a copy every time I click on it in the Files area! With .pdf documents, on the other hand, I click the right-hand-mouse button whilst hovering over the filname and select " open link in new tab " from the menu and the documents opens up in a new tab in the browser I am using. Nothing gets downloaded to my PC and I am free to save the document to where I want to should I wish to do so. Pip! Pip! Guest guest
HI DEL In main the LAB GAB Forum is where the folders inside of folders. For instance you open a folder, and inside this folder there are several folders, and inside of these there is another folder, and one can get lost inside these folders. This is also what I have ended up doing on my computer, but if you are not careful you can end up with a string of folders, and in turn you can lose what you are looking for. It is far easier to scroll down folders that are in alphabetical order than to search inside a string of folders. I also think it is easier if every information, for example about Calcium is put on one file, as then you would not have to have several files about calcium, and likewise for Potassium etc. If you have a file say on Potassium and more information comes to hand instead of adding further files, you simply add it or update the file on Potassium. When I do calendars because the months do not come in alphabetical order I put in front of January 001 then February has 002, but if I have then have several different designs each design gets a seperate folder, but its best not to put them one inside another. I also find that Windows recognises three figure numbers and puts them in order. Guest guest
The files should be like a filing cabinet. Each drawer (folder) given a name and inside are all the segments (files) appertaining to that name. To find out how the headings should be just look in the yellow pages. If you are looking for a garage you would look under G - Garage. After that you get more information about the various garages. Here, if someone wants to know about say Adrenals, they could well miss a really good article about it, because what they are looking for is not under A for Adrenals, it is under E for Excellent article. Sometimes something could be put in one folder but also in another - so put it in both. Or if not put in both put in one file where (or the link) to where it can be found in the other one (cross reference). That is why I thought that all articles should be sent to one person (who would be our filing clerk) to put in the files. Not just every member just putting things in the files, naming it whatever they think and it gets all messy again. The contents may be perfect but unless you have a proper filing system it will get missed anyway. As you know if something is not filed properly it can take ages, if ever, to be found again. No different from stuffing things in your cupboards and drawers at home. If things weren't put in some kind of order you will never find them or take ages to. Think how you put things away in the house. It would be chaos if things were put anywhere in the house. You would be spending hours looking for things and maybe not even find them. It is all very well having fantastic information if nobody can find it. Lilian
Guest guest
Splendidly well said (written?) Lilian! I couldn't agree more. I'm working on it, honest. It's just that occasionally I find things that makes me want to bang my head on the wall... ;-)) Del. > The files should be like a filing cabinet. > > Each drawer (folder) given a name and inside are all the segments (files) appertaining to that name. > > To find out how the headings should be just look in the yellow pages. Guest guest
HI LILIAN I could not agree with you more in having a filing clerk in charge of organizing the files, and like the others I too have to download a word doc onto the PC and then open it, but a PDF file you can open it and read it. The text files only appear to have links on them, or at least that is all I can see on them.
