Hi Sue & Sheila, I hope the following, just 4 days ago, is

Questions and answers

1. Can you provide more information about the adverse reactions?

The reports of reactions following use of this batch of vaccine have been

mainly from other countries and have mostly been mild and short-lived. They are

of the types usually associated with influenza vaccines. However, they have

been reported more frequently with the implicated batch than with other

batches. The cause is not known and is the subject of investigations by the

manufacturer and regulatory authorities.

2. I have egg allergic patients who need vaccination – can I use

alternative vaccines?

Yes. Any at risk patient who has an egg allergy should seek medical advice from

their GP before receiving a replacement low-egg content product.

Low egg-content flu vaccines are available and can be given safely to those

with egg allergy, even severe egg allergy, as long as guidance is followed.

Such patients should be referred to specialists for vaccination in hospital

using vaccine with an ovalbumin content less than 0.12 µg/ml (ie containing

less than 0.06µg per 0.5ml dose). A split dose schedule may be required at the

discretion of the supervising physician.

Further guidance is available in the influenza chapter of the Department of Health Green Book

(external link).

3. Will there be any shortages caused by the recall?

Adequate amounts of alternative products are available and no supply

problems are foreseen.

4. Are there any concerns about the level of protection for patients

who have been vaccinated?

No . There is no suggestion that the level is compromised or any revaccination

is needed.

5. When will further batches of Preflucel be available for use?

This is not currently known. One further batch (VNV5L012C ) is held in the

supply chain. This has been quarantined pending investigations and no further

Preflucel of any batch should be administered at this time.

Healthcare - Preflucel Vaccine - EL (11)A/24 (70Kb)

I can testify and endorse Sheila's statement. If my immune

system starts to suffer I also gargle salt water. Incensed with my nieces

spending a fortune on Lemsips for a cold I've successfully converted them to

take 2 paracetamol with hot orange squash.

If only the traditional, old fashioned, Grandma was around today

with Grandma's recipes? Mine used to give my brother and I half a Jaffa

sprinkled with sugar and a teaspoon.

Because I was asthmatic, a high risk group, my surgery

still phone me for an appointment for the flu jab. When I declined and said,

" if I want a dose of mercury I have 3 thermometers I can choose to

eat " , she said, " that's not quite the response I was expecting " .

My asthma is non existent since ceasing the use of household sprays

and plug-in air fresheners. Lemon juice and white vinegar are the substitutes

and if the spray is needed I remove the top and pour onto a cloth to avoid the

fumes/vapour. It first struck me when cleaning the worktop at the same time as

the gas stove was alight and the blue flame turned yeallow/orange.

Sue, you could well avoid the chest and

throat infection if you take high doses of vitamin C. Believe me, vitamin C is

a miracle supplement where cold infections come into the equation. Whenever

and I feel we are probably getting a cold, and you do get signs and

symptoms before it starts, we take at least 6000mgs vitamin C (some people take

10,000) and believe me, every single time it stops it in its tracks. I cannot

remember the last time I had a cold. However, I wouldn't take that amount every

day, but you would most definitely benefit by taking around 3000mgs daily. The

beauty of it is that if you take too much, it is excreted by the body. If you

have not done this before, make this the first year you do not suffer with your

throat and chest infection.

Luv - Sheila

Thank you Sheila, that explains it perfectly. I never seem to get a normal

cold ever, not had one in years, but instead every winter, without fail, I will

get a very bad throat and chest infection that really lays me up (I call it

bronchitis but that is just my diagnosis)it takes around 3 months to totally

clear turning me into a wreck in the process. I thought perhaps the flu vaccine

would keep away other nasty lurgies which I could do without on top of normal

winter infections. Reading what Dr. Lowe says, though, I think I will not take

the risk.. I have done without it up until now, so why rock the boat ... Thank

you for answer.

Hi, surely the best thing to do about flu is to take vitamin d3 until the blood

levels are right at the top of the nhs scale or just above. Look up 'the

vitamin d council' for further information on vit d and flu. I have been trying

to post it but it won't do it for me, maybe someone else might try and put it on

the forum. It should not be necessary to have a jab at all as the vitamin d3

gives better protection anyway and also helps with lots of other things too.

Vitamin d3 deficiency is implicated in lots of illnesses. I am on a study about

breast cancer, I have to take a vit d test every 6 months for 5 years and answer

questionaires. The study is with the university of calafornia and the hoped for

outcome is that the incidence of breast cancer is much reduced if everybody has

good vitamin d levels. Women with the worst forms of breast cancer have very

low levels normally.

yes this is it, the trouble is the link won't even let me read it, I get a

message that says that something is affecting the web browser and that it will

make my computer unresponsive, and it is totally unresponsive until I click to

leave the page! I have read it before though and I remember that vit d is good

for flu prevention as well as cancers too. I wonder why cancer research and all

the other charities are not getting the message out to the public?

Yes, I got that too. It told me there was a script running that

might slow down your computer and it asked if you wanted this to stop and I

clicked yes. The document opened and all was fine.
