Guest guest
Hi all I am getting conflicting advice from different doctors regarding My vitamin D level. My total 25OHD was 17ng/dl lab says insufficient. My stand in GP prescried 300,000 unit D2 injection 12 weeks ago and told me to go for a retest in 12 weeks. Meanwhile the MD at hospital told me that this is why I feel so unwell but keeps referring to it as low calcium (my calcium levels normal) but prescribed adcal which only has a small amount of vitamin D. He says they dont prescribe high dose vit Das it will raise my calcium too much ???? I saw a rheumatologist last week who is adamant that unless my D level was as low as 2 then I would not be having a problem BUT he has suggested that I take 40,00 iu per day for a week.He also said that the D2 would just be say in a ball in the fat it was injected into My Gp has requested a retest but the lab says I have to wait 6 months for another test. I have been taking magnesium daily but not calcium along with 5,000 iu D3 which I bought myself any thoughts please Debbie xx
Guest guest
My Vit D was 10 on a range of 10 -60. I was prescribed Calcichew, but opted not to take them because (1) they contain soya and aspartame and (2) they don't have enough Vit D. I took 1,000ius daily from H & B instead. After six months,my level had risen to 25 only. I was given the injection and it dropped to 22. I then decided to take 5,00 ius gelcap per day and in a further 6 months my level rose to 138. At the same time the range changed starting at 50 with no upper limit. I am now on a maintenance dose of Vit D. My calcium was within range, despite the D being so low, until I had the injection. Then it dropped below range. It is back within range again. What you're doing sounds about right. The lab here is reluctant to test more than once a year as they say D is a very safe supplement. It may depend what your GP puts on the form and how persuasive he is.
