Guest guest
If you made your Lugol's 5%, why are you worried about how many drops in a teaspoon? Each drop will be 6.25mg of Lugol's so just count out how many drops you need for the mgs. you want to take each day. For example, 8 drops of 6.25 mg = 50 mg. Kathleen I'm confused about drop size and dosing I made our Lugol's 5% based on 's recipe. In that post with the recipes it says at one point "assuming 70 drops per teaspoon." We measured and repeatedly got 140 drops/teaspoon. So we assumed that it would take TWO of our drops of 5% to equal 6.25 mg, and we've been taking our doses based on that.BUT, I awoke this morning and realized that made the comment about 70 drops/teaspoon in the paragraph with the 10% Lugol's, and since drop size is dependent on weight of liquid... the drops/teaspoon for 10% would most likely be different than 5%.I searched online for "number of drops in a teaspoon" and got 50, 60, and 70 (but all referencing water). We got 140 drops with three different droppers we had in the house. If you've read this far and your head isn't spinning, any idea how many drops/teaspoon you get with your Lugol's 5%? At this point I've no idea if I've been taking about 150 mg/day, or 300.PS. It's okay if your laughing at me, I'm laughing at me.
Guest guest
Well I wouldn't have been worried about it accept that said 70 drops per teaspoon and we got 140 drops per teaspoon. If " 1 drop = 6.25 " mg is based on 70 drops per teaspoon, then it makes a difference. If a drop is a drop is a drop no matter the dropper used, then it makes no difference. Guest guest
Hi Rhea: The problem with drops/tsp estimates is that commercial droppers are variable and teaspoon measurements are subject to variations too, leveling, eyeing and surface tension all causing estimation problems. Still, using water or Lugol's 5% in a commercial dropper, I get comparable drop counts, so for starters I think you can use water for a basic measure for testing. It's possible you have droppers for pediatric dosing, because with mine I really couldn't get to 140 gtt/tsp, or close. Suggestion: do you have access to a syringe (not with a needle, just the body with the plunger pulled out) marked in ml or cc (same thing)? If so, jam the open bottom against your finger, then use your dropper to fill the barrel with water to the 1 ml/ 1cc line or as close as you can get to even, then use the dropper to fill to the 2 ml line, precisely, counting the number of drops it takes. If it's 20 or 22 drops you have a standard commercial dropper that yields the normal 6.25 mg iodine/iodide content. Aaaand, you've been taking a bit more than you intended to. If, on the other hand, it takes 40 to 44 drops -- or at any rate, more than 20 to 22 -- you're right, you've got a smaller-than-normal droplet producer, so you have some calculating to do to work out exactly how you want to do your dosing. Or, you can go down to the drugstore and get some standard droppers, and go from there. Trust this helps -- or at least doesn't further confuse. Non-standard drop size can be a problem. Guest guest
I need to say first that I had every intention of slowly increasing my doseage. LOL And if I'd had any detox symptoms I would have backed off.My husband and I started with 13 drops (thinking it was around 25 mg because of the whole drop issue, but maybe it was 50?). My husband took two 13 drop doses on day two and felt great so I joined him. On day three he took three doses. I was going to hold at two, thinking that was 50 mg, but read about an iodine protocol for candida that was 50 mg four times per day. So I started taking 13 drops four times per day, but many days I only took 3 because I'd forget and then not want to take the last dose right before bed. On day 10 my 10 year old exclaimed, " Your skin looks great! " I told her it was soft too. She said, " No, look at your hands. " I did and was amazed. So in 10 days they looked younger. They look even better now. What's the difference? I've been trying to figure that out myself. They are lighter in color, the few age spots I have are lighter in color too. But it's more than that. it seems like either the skin is more elastic, or has firmed up. I just asked my kids what they see as being different, and the 16 yo says the skin seems less see-through, and fuller. My 10 yo says they are less wrinkly. My 15 yo says they look more like a 20 yo's. Another thing - About 20 years ago I sliced open the palm of my hand near my thumb. The doctor used butterflies to close it, no stitches, so apparently it wasn't into muscle. But hands get used a lot and the butterflies didn't stay on so it was repeatedly opening back up on me. It scarred in a thin line, and every now and then over the years it would hurt enough that I'd rub at the scar trying to relieve the pain. About 2 weeks after starting the iodine, I got this itching underneath the scar. For a day and a night and part of another day it itched inside, under the scar. I'd rub and rub trying to relieve the itching. I'm guessing some healing was going on underneath the scar, and I'm curious to see if the scar goes away. Fun times with iodine. ; ) On Thu, Nov 3, 2011 at 11:54 AM, jcd in es <jcdines@...> wrote: OK .... now I'm 'more' motivated too......How much did you say you were taking ... how many timesa day and for how long before you started to see results? Guest guest
Hi Rhea,Yes, I'm laughing WITH you, because it takes so little to confuse my Lyme-brain and this business of drop size has been plaguing so many for so long. I'd sooner switch the question to ml. and use a baby dropper that has millilters marked on the side.I just got tired of the one-Lugol's-bottle-per-transmission limit that was making shipping expensive. Now, I've got 3 litres of lovely black walnut hulls tincturing in vodka, as directed by Dr. 's method (for the past 2.5 weeks), and haven't a clue what strength it might be gathering, nor how much of it is iodine and how much is iodide. If anyone knows, I'd love to hear of your experiences! Until now, I've used Lugol's 5% in all sorts of topical applications. and haven't done all the required homework provided by this great site yet, so don't know where to begin with ingesting yet. Please forgive this newbie. I do know that if your Lugol's is 2.5% you use twice as much as the 5%, but even that can get confusing sometimes. Sure hope iodine helps the brain! =)Be well,LénaOn Nov 3, 2011, at 2:52 PM, Rhea Richmond wrote: I made our Lugol's 5% based on 's recipe. Fun times with iodine. ; ) Switch to: Text-Only, Daily Digest • Unsubscribe • Terms of Use .

I was going to hold at two, thinking that was 50 mg, but read about an iodine protocol for candida that was 50 mg four times per day. Guest guest
Enough for me is 50mg maintenance. I have crohn's, celiac's, anklyosis sponodlytis and a few other autoimmune diseases. Taking it once a day whether you take 25 mg or 300 mg all at once. It all depends what you are taking it for. You can have breast cancer and still take the full daily dose once a day is all I was saying. I have always had problems with sleep but then again I'm ADHD too. To each his own I guess I was just saying the full daily dose can be taken all at once. Guest guest
Thank you, Megaera, that does help! I just did it and it took 47 drops. I'm glad to know I haven't been taking twice as much as I meant to take. : )RheaOn Thu, Nov 3, 2011 at 11:46 AM, Megaera3 <megaera3@...> wrote: Hi Rhea: The problem with drops/tsp estimates is that commercial droppers are variable and teaspoon measurements are subject to variations too, leveling, eyeing and surface tension all causing estimation problems.
