Hi

It is so difficult to cut up small tablets as they end up breaking unequally too - even when using a really sharp knife or a pill cutter. One way is to crush the tablet completely and then divide it that way - a much easier way to get the exact dosage. This was told to me by my mother-in-law -she trained to be a midwife in 1930s and it was the way they used to split tablets as they were not sure if ingredients were thoroughly mixed so they mixed it when crushed and then divided!!

Hope this helps.

My partner and I recently started ourselves on 1/4 grain Armour and have since upped it to 3 x 1/4 gain divided up throughout the day

I don't know where you are purchasing your Armour Thyroid, but

it might be cheaper for you to start using the Erfa 'Thyroid' which costs about

£90 for 500 tablets of 1 grain (60mgs). This is the Canadian licensed natural

desiccated thyroid and is made to be taken sublingually so it gets directly

into the blood stream. The tablets are very easily cut up.  You ca\n buy these

at www.valuepharmaceuticals.com

You can buy the 2 grains Erfa 'Thyroid, but these are 125mgs, so a little more

potent than Armour. A lot of us have found that when we changed to Erfa

Thyroid, we had to cut down our dose. I cut my dose down by 1 grain (60mgs).

Why are you taking your last dose before you go to bed. It is

usually recommended that you split your dose of natural thyroid into two lots,

taking half when you wake, and the other half about 2.00 to 3.00p.m. as the

effect starts to leave your system around 6 to 8 hours, and this way, you keep

the engine topped up.

Are you both taking high doses of vitamin C - 2/3000mgs daily,

Selenium 200mcgs daily and a good brand of B complex?

Luv - Sheila

To give some feedback I have found my nails are growing very fast, my skin is

very much softer and smoother and my body is definitely adjusting to this

dosage and hope to take it up by another 1/4 grain in the am in the next week

or two. Does anyone find that taking the last of their Armour dose before bed

keeps them awake?

Your response would be appreciated.

Wow, that sounds the best advice, will give it a go. Thanks so much for that

advice.

To be honest, I have just been experimenting with the dosage, and started by

taking 1/4 grain on waking, 1/4 grain at mid afternoon and 1/4 grain at night

(thinking this would help to build it up in the system over night). On the site

it has also been recommended to split the dose during the day, and one person

who replied to an earlier question on this site by myself said she took part of

her dose at night, and she found she had no problem with that. I was finding

myself very dizzy initially during the day, and started taking the last dose at

night so I didn't notice the dizzyness, also I had read some people found it

helped with sleeping. I have ordered Dr Peatfield's book so hopefully will learn

more from there.

I ordered Armour from International Pharmacy as I had read mostly on Armour and

not about Erfa.

Is it better to split the dose for during the day then.

Thanks for all replies, appreciated.

Hi, I also bought a pill cutter off amazon, but found it still broke up the

Armour pill into pieces and powder. I have just tried crushing the pill and

that works very well. So will try to split up the dose doing it that way. Will

look into Erfa. All the books I have read mention Armour as the most common one

used, so I have gone for that. Is there a preference for Erfa over Armour. So

far we seem alright on Armour, just working our way into getting the dosage

sorted. But it is very expensive, especially as we are both on it, will look

into purchasing Erfa if the cost is much better.

I have over the last 7 years had quite bad patches of nummular (circular) eczema

on my calves and it usually got worse if my diet included things which I was

intolerant to. This has completely cleared up through adding saturated fat into

my diet. My skin on arms and legs have always been very dry, but the texture of

my skin has just gone silky in the last few weeks. Very strange and wonderful

to experience. I always had very good skin until the last few years of moving

to the UK and I think the winters and the heated buildings haven't helped. My

calves look very smooth and this is very different from how it looked before

where I noticed I had to keep the skin moisturised often. I am using no

moisturiser at all and yet the softness remains. Can this all be down to the

armour/thyroid hormone?

In a word - YES

Did you know there are two cheaper NDT formulas available from Thailand? These

are supposed to very good formulas, but one of them at least has more additives

in I think

You can get 1000x60mg (1grain) of Thiroyd [thats how it's spelt] for 86 pounds

or 1000x60mg of thyroid - s for 86 pounds.

this is the site:

http://www.edrugnet.co.uk/showprice.asp?name=thyroid & bysearch=ok

====

http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/armour-vs-other-brands/

THYROID-S is from Sriprasit Pharma Co., Ltd. in Thailand (sister company of

Sriprasit Dispensary R.O.P.) Advertising states that Sriprasit Pharma is " a

leading importer of pharmaceutical products, and has been a GMP and ISO

9002-certified manufacturer of pharmaceutical products. " Patients report they

are quite pleased with this product. Sriprasit states Thyroid-s is gluten-free,

but a patient has reported classic gluten digestive symptoms with it.

THIROYD (yes, that's how they spell it) by Greater Pharma Ltd., a leading Thai

Pharmaceutical Manufacturer. An email to a patient by Greater Pharma states that

" thiroyd " at one grain contains T3 at 8.31 microgram; T4 at 35 microgram, which

is 0.013% and 0.058% respectively. Thyroid patient states: The Thiroyd

tablets are white and have a sweet taste almost like papaya or a similar fruit.

They dissolve very well sublingually and seem to have a very good potency.

Entire paper insert with info is written in English: Greater Pharma

Manufacturing Co. Ltd , 55/2 Phutthamonthon, Nakhon, Pathom. Like Thyroid-S,

this is ordered over the net.

Another thyroid patient, la, was told by the makers of Thiroyd that is

free of aluminum, which is good news if you are avoiding excesses of aluminum,

which has been implicated in Alzheimers.

Thank you to everyone for input and advice especially on where to buy cheaper

thyroid medication. I find this site so valuable and appreciate being able to

ask for advice and get such a quick response. Dr Peatfield's book arrived today

and I am glad he mentions that its a case of trial and error to get the dosage

right, and you will have good and bad days when you are working it and this is

normal. I am aware that my energy level is much higher, and I walk more every

day. I am not sure if the daily exercise is causing the energy for walking, or

the armour medication is giving me the energy / motivation to walk but I miss it

if I don't and this is very unsual for me.
