Guest guest
Hi Debbie - I had the same question as you and had posted to the group a couple of months ago and got the same positive response, but was surprised that more people on the list did not have personal experience with this issue. My husband, who is a chiropractor, was able to attend Dr. Brownstein's seminar in NYC last weekend. He asked him specifically about uterine fibroids. He said that in his clinical experience small fibroids disappear, and the growth of large ones stops. My fibroids are small (3 less than 2cmx2cm, 1 about 2cmx2cm), but because of their location require full abdominal surgery, a 3 day hospital stay and a possible blood transfusion to remove! (You've got to be kidding me!!) A woman on this listserv with a large fibroid advised me a couple of months ago to take Calcium D Glucarate, DIM and increase my iodine dosage to 100mg, which I did. I also take Indole-3 Carbinol - which I have taken for 9+ months. I have not gone for another ultrasound, and do not plan to before early next year, however I am pretty sure that the fibroids have at least shrunk. I used to be able to feel them from time to time, and now I do not. I have noticed many other positive hormonal changes including lighter periods, as well as changes to my breasts. I have had no adverse side effects or detox symptoms from the iodine (100mg of iodoral daily), though I followed the protocol exactly and started natural salt immediately. I take niacinate and riboflavin daily as well. I have eaten a 90% organic diet for at least 15 years. To be honest, I was shocked that I even had fibroids in the first place! Since beginning the iodine protocol almost 3 months ago, I have eaten a high protein, no hormone, low starch/carb, organic diet; exercised almost daily (Bikram - which is very detoxifying, cardio/interval and kettlebells), and had absolutely no alcohol or refined sugar. I decided to take ground flax daily, but I limit soy. This is just to say that I honestly believe that diet is also an incredibly powerful tool, but that to see effects consistency and rigor really count. My dietary goal was to reduce body fat, since estrogen is stored in fat and it seems like too much of some kinds of estrogen is at the root of fibroids. I also use all natural skin and cleaning products, and filtered water - not water that comes in plastic bottles. I am radical about avoiding any and all hormone altering products. Last cycle I added natural (paraben free) progesterone cream on the 14 days post ovulation (which I tested for) and I believe this has also had a positive effect - I'm 42. Consider checking out Dr. Brownstein's book on hormones. Fibroids or not, I feel fantastic and feel that I have taken at least 5 years off my age! :-) I hope you find this information helpful! Good luck! All the best - Pam PS - if you haven't already done a liver detox, I have found them extremely helpful and you may want to look into UltraClear or a similar program before you start a lot of supplements or make dietary changes... > > > Has anyone on this group used iodine supplements to help shrink uterine > > fibroids? > > > > Mine are very large and I do not plan on having a hysterectomy unless I > > run into some kind of health emergency. Guest guest
It was recommended to me that I have a hysterectomy as well due to fibroid growth and very heavy periods. I was 42 at the time. Thankfully, I sought out another opinion and had a myomectomy and ablation to remove the fibroids which preserved my body parts. The fibroids started to grow back again after a few years, but since I have started iodine several years ago they have stayed the same size last time I had an ultrasound. They were not too large at that point. So, I would suggest taking iodine at least 50 mg as your whole body will utilize it. Guest guest
Thanks, Pam. I am going to order some iodine and see what happens. I have read that eating raw cabbage family foods block the absorption of iodine in the body. Is it going to be counterproductive to take Indole-3 Carbinol or DIM while taking iodine? I have already been using Celtic / Himalayan sea salt to some degree. I use it in my homemade sports drink, since I avoid Gatorade. I have a fairly similar story to yours. I've been researching and applying natural health/ diet for years. I am a runner and also do core workouts. I, too, believe what you eat is very important. I eat as much organic as I can afford and avoid refined foods. I make and consume lots of kefir. I avoid soy completely. My friends all think I'm a health nut So why would I have fibroids? Since discovering the fibroids, and reading about them, I've eliminated cleaning and beauty / personal care products that contain any petroleum based ingredients, and taken other measures to avoid xenooestorgens. I've been taking milk thistle, magnesium and vitex for several years. Still my fibroids grow and grow. My uterus is past my belly button. As a blessing of God, I don't have any problems with them other than just the uncomfortable heaviness of carrying them and looking fat. Guest guest
I think a lot more research on fibroids needs to be done... Obviously, women should not be developing these tumors... Unfortunately, as long as doctors make big bucks from cutting us open, there's not much incentive to research " benign " growths... I didn't know about the absorption issue you point out... I have found the Indole-3 Carbinol to be effective, but I only knew of it's effect prior to taking the iodine... I have been taking both since I started with the iodine, and I can definitely say that the iodine has had an impact, so the I3C couldn't have hindered absorption that much... I hope that the iodine works for you! My fingers are crossed... and I will report back when and if I go for another ultrasound... Best of luck!
