There is no decolorized iodiNe - you can find iodiDe without color but it doesn't have all of the benefits of iodiNe. You can also take iodine internally - in the form of Lugol's and I have found that it really cleared up a lot of my skin problems, don't know of course if it would be the same for your condition - mine was entirely caused by inappropriate thyroid treatment. Perhaps you could put the iodine on once you get done with work, it will very likely be invisible before you go out the next day. Maybe try it out on the weekend. I find if I put it on my skin or break outs just before bed, the color has disappeared by morning.

Iodine for blepharitis - decolorized brand?

Hello group,

I have been battling blepharitis for 3 years and nothing seems to help it long term. I have Lyme and am on doxycycline and it seemed to clear it up for about 2 months but now it is back.

I read about a 2008 study using iodine for blepharitis. It had a 98% improvement rate after 7 days of twice daily applications with a q-tip. They used a standard 5% strength, which I see on Amazon. But I am afraid that the iodine will stain my skin and look odd. I am wondering if anyone knows of a good 5% decolorized brand. Amazon does list some decolorized iodine but the strength is not listed nor is it on the bottle. If you know of a good brand, and/or if you have used iodine for blepharitis, I would love to hear your advice.

I have used Lugol's on my skin in the past and it really doesn’t stain as my body absorbs it quickly. Make sure you mix a bit of oil with the iodine so it doesn’t dry out your skin too much. I prefer castor oil, which in itself has many healing properties. Best, Kathleen

I paint Lugol's on my skin - and it does disappear. In the beginning it disappeared within 2 hours - so I was very deficient.

Thanks for the advice everyone! To mix it with castor oil, how exactly do you do that? Do you mix it a bunch at a time or each time you apply it? Equal amounts or ?  Is castor oil as safe or safer around the eyes than flaxseed oil? Thanks again,

Niki and Kathleen Blepharitis is an inflammation of the eyes and it’s quite common in people using eyedrops for glaucoma. My glaucoma doctor recommends taking J & J baby shampoo, diluting it 4-1, and then dabbing it into the closed eyes, especially the lashes, rub in gentley with the finger tips for maybe 30 seconds or so. Then wash liberally with water as hot as you can stand to remove the gunky deposits. If the blepharitis is in the early stages, it works very nicely. If the iodine does not work, maybe this will help you. Hi Niki,

I want to make it clear that it's best to use castor oil from the health food store, not the kind you can buy in the drug store. I use either Home Health Castor Oil or Heritage Products Castor Oil, both brands are pure and cold-pressed. What I do is put the Lugol's on my skin first, and then put some castor oil over that and rub it in. You just have to play around with it and see what works best for you. Castor oil is amazing and is very healing. I have read that some people use it to help heal stys around the eye. But I personally have never used it for that. I would google 'castor oil' and see what info you can find about how safe it is to use around the eyes. Personally, I would not be afraid to use it around my eyes; but again, do research and see what you find. Best regards, Kathleen

I have used colloidal silver, 10PPM, for several years sprayed into the eyes and surrounding area with good results. I am 73 with no cataracts or glaucoma. Eye irritations, infections, clear up in short order after spraying with the silver. I have friends in the health field who do the same with the silver. And do they not use a silver on newborn babies eyes, as fungal conditions can exist in the birth canal?

Also when my kitty cats had infections of the eyes I used it on them and all cleared up.

Doug Kaufmann www.knowthecause.com has stated these conditions have a fungal source, you might want to check his site.

Hello. Firstly, if you want to start a new topic, please click on the "Start a New Topic" at the bottom on this page. Otherwise if you start a new discussion with another subject that has already been started in the Subject line, as was done here, it can get confusing.

Secondly, many people have noticed that very thing that you have. Many do better on larger doses. Are you taking the companion nutrients? Remember, any iodine that the body does not utilize is excreted in the urine. I take 100 mgs daily with no problem. Your going up to 100mg is something you will have to experiment with. Let us know how that goes if you decide to raise your dose. Good luck! Kathleen
