Guest guest Posted September 22, 2011 Report Share Posted September 22, 2011 I'm sorry to have to say, but this is all well and good about selenium, if indeed it is true, but the idea that this means we don't need to worry about mercury (as this article claims) in the environment is simply false. More and more industrial processes emit mercury which enters the food chain. Japan had a horrible mercury poisoning epidemic a few decades ago because of toxic waste being dumped in a bay where people fished. The article starts off: The best science indicates that trace amounts of mercury in the fish Americans eat simply aren't high enough to pose a health risk. This isn't true from the get go-- pregnant women and children have been advised to limit the amount of fish they eat, and if anyone thinks that guideline was easy to get by the corporate pollution deniers, they aren't paying attention-- we had to struggle to get this truth out there. Because the article starts off with a false premise I seriously question the content of this article.
