The standard recipe for Lugol's 5% solution is:

100 gm of Lugol's 5% solution = 5 gm of Iodine + 10 gm Potassium Iodide (KI), 85

gm distilled water

This is the ratio you are referring to. The Lugol's that J. Crow's sells (5%)

is the correct ratio of the above recipe. When broken down by drop, two drops

(of 5%) equal 12.5 mg TOTAL Iodine/Iodide or 6.25 mgs per drop of Iodine/Iodide.

There is a paper in the files titled, " How Much Iodine Is In Lugol's " which

explains the breakdown.

I'm glad to see that J. Crow's has updated their info to reflect the correct

amount of Iodide in their solution.

The 5% solution consists of 5% (wt/v) iodine (I2) and 10% (wt/v) potassium

iodide (KI) mixed in distilled water and has a total iodine content of

130 mg/mL.[2] Potassium iodide renders the elementary iodine soluble in water

through the formation of the triiodide (I & #8722; & #8232;3) ion. It is not to be

confused with tincture of iodine solutions, which consist of elemental iodine,

and iodide salts dissolved in water and alcohol. Lugol's solution contains no

alcohol.
